ATT Streak 2.2 Froyo Update Confirmed

I have been holding off on purchasing the Streak and dumping my iPhone for a while now. I just hung-up the phone with a very knowledgeable Dell Mobile specialist. He has confirmed that the 2.2 update is available OTA for both unlocked and ATT Dell Streaks. He was very confident the info is correct. He said he uses one and it is released.

Can someone confirm that so I can pick up one of these bad boys and get rid of the iphone?

I have an att streak and still no update yet. You can get 2.2 if you buy an unlocked direct from dell. I saw them on their website.
 
Just received my unlocked dell. It didn't come with 2.2 but a system update and a couple reboots fixed that. I assume mine is the unlocked version because wifi hot spot is enabled as is side loading.
 
US Streaks are supposed to get the OTA Update to 2.2 in Mid December. Im currently waiting also. But I would def. recommend that you get a Streak. There SWEET!!
 
So you guys are saying the Dell guy was wrong? ALso, if I get it now and dont want to wait till mid december and update it to unofficial 2.2, can I do the oficial 2.2 when it comes out?

Well as of right now I dont have an ota update yet. But it should be sometime this month. Yes you can always roll back I'm sure.
 
go through the articles on streaksmart.com
that website has pretty much everything you need to know. and ya the dell guy was wrong. im a little obsessive about it and check every couple hours lol
 
OK. I went to bestbuy and got one. No OTA, as you guys said here.

Called Dell Mobile support. The girl answered said will be updated soon. Any day now.

Now I am pissed. But still liking it. So the question is should I root and install 2.2?

Also, what is the best method, it seems like there are couple?

It did not happen. No OTA update. Now the question is do I return so I have my 30 days to test once it comes out? Do I root it and install 2.2? Is that risky? Is it easy to update OTA if it is rooted and a new rom installed over 1.6???:confused:
 
Going back tomorrow.
Getting either a MT4G or Nexus S.

Dell really blew this one up for me. SOOOO glad still in my 30 days...

probably a good idea Jenn at streaksmart has it confirmed its not gonna be until january that the update happens and the middle of january at best
 
Just download the QDL tool, watch the video tutorial, and update it yourself.
PAINLESS! 15 minutes, you'll be on 2.2
 
I know how sorry this sounds but what is a free unzipper i can use? i have downloaded everything but winzip has expired. is there anything I can use that wont expire and also happens to be free. I'm to broke after buying this damn phone to be buying software for something i dont use
 
What OS are you using?

If windows, then from XP on the operating system supports zip files. You might have to uninstall winzip first so that it defaults back to the OS.
 
WOW!!! That was soooooooo easy.
I had gone through the step in XDA developer a couple of time both up (failing at the DJ_Steve 2.2 step) and then back down.

But this way was faster and much (can't say that too many times ;) ) much easier.

I'm running 2.2 now.
wow very different home screens.

Now off to play weeeeeeeeee
 
Thanks for the help with the zip!! got everything all set up and had an issue last night with the driver install lol any tips?
 
ok specifically that this driver is not for my device or something like that so it wont let me finish the update. this sucks. i have windows vista 32 bit according to the system specs page on the computer. and its on an amd 64 processor but im not sure how much of a difference that ends up making
 
2.2 update starts tommorrow 15th dec 2010.

dont despair ,th e dell streak is going to be 100x better with 2.2 , iv been tied with 1.6 and its just bursting for 2.2 , it will be let freeeeeee


also, dunno what this gingerbread fw is like but apparantly its also going to be good
