ATT Streak 2.2 Froyo Update Confirmed

Just for the record, here is what I am doing, maybe I am doing something really dumb, but this is it.

1. I have downloaded ftp://ftp.dell.com/Handheld/R288920.exe and installed it, nothing special, just clicked on it and followed the instructions.

2. Downloaded the ODL tool and installed the Drivers.

3. Turn off Streak.
4. Remove battery, wait 2 minutes, put battery back in.
5. Hold down the VolUp and plug in USB (Steak is still off)
6. ODL tool port goes from "no connection" to "Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 9002 (COM2)"

How long should I hold the VOL UP button while connecting the USB?
Am I missing something simple?

TIA

Double check to make sure you didn't load the 9002 modem driver rather then the 9002 USB diagnostic driver. I did that by mistake and nothing happened when I held down the VOL UP button.

Also, did you load the ADB drivers?

I followed the instructions multiple times "to a T" and can't get it working. I get the same error:

ERROR[D14]: Streaming hello Failed!
ERROR: Download fail!
Please remove the battery and try again.
Wait for modem set up ......

I'm happy to donate to this site if I can get this working, but so far, I'm stuck. Can someone please help?

Thanks in advance.

If you bought the unlocked version, the 2.2 update has been available for some time, before Christmas I think. If you have the locked version, it is not there yet.

I have a At&t locked version, which they unlocked for me a few weeks ago, but it still won't update because it is the wrong OS version :(

I IM'd an agent last night as well. He looked through all of the documentation on his side, and they still don't have a date for the locked AT&T version to be upgraded to Android 2.2.

I can easily get 2.2 installed on the phone, but it's really annoying that I have to do it at all. I wonder if this get less attention since phones like the Galaxy S has a larger user base and people are expecting 2.2 to be installed OTA.

All the sites posted it was to happen on Feb 1st, but it is almost the 4th here and no update yet.

I did download the update directly from dell and got halfway through the install when I got a pop-up that said there was a version mismatch and it rebooted

I have tried the "tool" method, but I am just not smart enough to get it right either :(

I don't think that you're "smart enough", I think it's just difficult to do. And you shouldn't have to do it. From my research, it looks like AT&T is holding up the upgrade, not Dell. Dell sells the locked version with Android 2.2.

I feel like I'm buying a car. I'm still undeceive on if I should buy the Streak or the upcoming HTC Inspire. Both have a 1 GHz snapdragon processor. However the Streak has an older, less power-efficient processor. However, I'm not really sure what that means in real-life usage.

I've seen concerns with battery life. What has been your experience?

I read through all of the user comments on Dell.com and BestBuy.com. A common complaint is that the screen shatters easily with a modest drop from a couch or 2 feet or a bump. Have you experience any of this?

Dell seems to ignore this phone on its web site. It posts it as a tablet. The tablet product page has a broken link to accessories.

Battery life is nothing compared to my old Blackberry curve which would last 4 days without a charge, the Streak is good for a day and maybe a day and half with lite usage, but my Sony X10 that I had for 29 days before I returned it, seemed to be about the same. I hear battery life is better on 2.2, maybe one day I will find out.

As far as breakage, I can't say. I have a silicone cover, I have dropped it a few times and never had any problems.

Battery life is fair. I use the living daylights out of it! My data usage for a month is almost 2gb, and not sure how much on wifi as anytime im at home its wifi. I use a task killer and have lots of updating going on and use live wallpapers that just kill it. I play pandora at work for about 4 hrs and internet on 3g after 8hrs its about 30% left. I have the dell windsheild mount and charger, so I would recommend getting a spare cable of sort.
