Help Removing Bloatware

marefin

Android Enthusiast
I've been trying to remove some of the bloatware on my Captivate with Titanium Backup. When I try to uninstall it, the phone will turn off (which it's supposed to do) then go into recovery mode (not sure if it's supposed to), then it says that the uninstallation wasn't successful. Any other way to safely remove all these crap that AT&T stuck me with?

Titanium Backup doesnt delete the bloatware it just freezes it. Best is to freeze them to avoid deletion of important app.

Do u paid version? only paid version has ability to freeze.

try root explorer (paid but best) or androidmate (free) to delete bloatware on ur own risk.

Well I had used Titanium to uninstall some bloatware before, but I got a new phone and now I'm not able to do it. These are just crap apps that AT&T sticks on, so it's nothing important. What does freezing an app do?

Did you root your phone? I was able to remove all bloatware using TB.

I just use LauncherPro to hide them. Never see them... never know they are there. Make sure you never open some of them. They start charging you.

Well whaddya know... that's what it says in the FAQ's. Hey sremick... the link to get the files back no longer works.

^ Me too, Launcher Pro Plus, hide them (and a few others I just don't need to see/open). I love that! No rooting necessary, no issues with warranty, etc.

Thanks for the heads-up. Let me know if you find another source.

PS: this is a prime example of why it's advisable to not delete them, and only "freeze" them. If you delete them, you're at the mercy of someone on the internet providing the files... and the source available today might be gone tomorrow.

My phone is rooted. I don't want to just hide them, I want them GONE :)

Deleting them can cause problems.

As you've already seen, demonstrated in your first post.

You were provided a link that explains. Please read. ;) Thanks.

Attempt to remove at your own peril. You have been warned.

Well as demonstrated by my second post, I have done it before the same way and it worked just fine ......... ;) but for some reason it's not working this time around.
