Root Restore problems

Hey guys I'm new to rooting and ran into an issue today and can't figure out how to fix it. I rooted my evo last week with unvevoked without any problems. Today I installed Cyanogen 6.1.1 and followed the directions exactly as posted on the Cyanogen wiki page (HTC Evo 4G: Full Update Guide - CyanogenMod Wiki). I did a Nandroid backup before starting the installation and on directly after it was finished. After playing around with it for a while I decided I wanted to restore my phone back to how it was before. When I tried to restore back to the point before the Cyanogen install it gives me an error saying "error while flashing boot image". It gives me this error for any restore point I try except for the newest one. Can somebody please help.

Is your battery charged? I know if its below 30% you will get an error restoring a nand. Are you restoring a nand from the same recovery you made the nand from? My only other suggestion would be boot the phone up and put another rom of your choice on your SD card and flash.

After really reading your op I believe you did. So.... you can't restore nands from different hboots. Ans just fyi there was no need for you to downgrade your hboot for cyanogen anymore.

So do I have to change the eng spl. back to what it was before to restore the old nands?

You could probably flash the S-ON tool, then flash an appropriate RUU to completely unroot (which should take you back to the correct hboot), then reroot, but that would probably be more trouble than it's worth.

I downloaded the 3.29.ruu and ran it, but I keep getting the "error[170]: usb connection error". It says the rom update utility cannot connect to my android phone then tells me to check the cable, but the cable is fine the computer sees the phone in the device manager. I did not flash the S-ON tool. Could that be the reason for the error?

This is really not all worth the trouble just to get back to hboot .97... it's not going to hurt your phone to have the eng hboot, you just can't restore old nand back ups.

Agreed. Though you may have a problem if you ever have to bring your phone in for service and they actually check.

Do you have HTC sync installed?

I do not have sync installed.

I don't really care if I get back to hboot .97. I just want a) a stock version if anything happens and I need the phone worked on and b) a rooted version like I had before I installed the cyanogen rom.
