Help ringtones over 300k?

I'm relitivaly new to android and just got my phone but is there any way to set the ringtones from your SD card that are OVR 300K This seems asinine to me that the mp3 has to be under this size. If the phone is rooted will it allow or any workaround? Thanks a lot

A ringtone is only going to play for a few seconds. 300K is overkill.

Use something like Ringdroid to crop the sound file down to the 30 seconds or so that you actually want to use as the ringtone. This is outlined in the Captivate FAQ:

There is an app on the market called "rings extended" This app will allow you to select any music file on your phone as a ringtone. I have been using it since I first started with android. I can't remember but I"m pretty sure it's a free app. This app is great if you are on the road and don't have access to an audio editor, or simply don't mind hearing the first 20 seconds of a song for a ringtone.

I tried the "rings extended" app but it only allows you to change the main ringtone of the phone, you still can't choose a different one per contact. But what I did find out by accident is that if you have the "SoundCloud" app installed, when you go to choose a ringtone for your specific contact, choose "Phone ringtone", then you'll see the SoundClound icon next to "Local file". If you select it, it allows you to pick any sound file stored on your phone. So far, works great for me!
