Help New to Evo.. best battery saver/task killer app?

So I've been here in the forums for a few months, over in the Samsung Moment area. I just recently upgraded to a real android phone, the Evo. Wow, talk about a huge difference! I can actually make and accept phone calls now (a basic requirement for a working phone, amirite?), and I don't have to reboot my phone multiple times a day!

So I've had the Evo for a few days and I love it. The battery lasts longer than the Moment (stock Sprint ROM, no Root), but I'm curious as to what you folks think is the best battery saver/taskiller app.

On the Moment, I used to use TasKiller Free and Startup Advisor to kill unwanted programs, but on the Evo I'm using Juice Defender (free). It seems to do a decent job, however it is limited.

What do you use? Any other recommendations you can make to me?

Thanks!

Welcome to Evo!

It's a great phone, isn't it?

I get pretty good battery life and I don't use a taskkiller or juicedefender. I can make it through a day with normal use.

If battery life is a problem, just get a car charger and an extra charger for work and use the CIWYC rule (Charge It Whenever You Can) :) :)

Enjoy the phone!

No task Killers. The Evo doesn't need it. Just don't go downloading a shit load of apps that you don't need. Stay away from Live Wallpaper if your concerned about battery life. LWP is nice but, it will drain the battery. Welcome to the Evo side of the forum. People here are very supportive.

You may also try undervolting to increase battery life. I'm still reading up on it before i give it a try, but from what i've read on this forum and others this has significantly increased the battery life for many users.

definitely do the network trick here

Go to menu setting account/sync and manage what you want syncing and the time intervals.

Battery can be good considering its a nice big screen, fast processor, and does so much but you have to maintain it. Example: do you really need the weather syncing every hour??

Widgets are nice looking but use alot of battery!

Download quick settings to manage alot of setting with a push of a button

turn off 3g if you're not using it along with anything else your not using like gps

google talk is on by default go in there and sign out.

just explore the phone. Hit the menu button on apps that sync and control the amount of syncing they do

I too just switched to the Evo (from the Hero) and am loving it so far. Really it's just an upgraded Hero, but I'm glad I bought it because it was definitely time for an upgrade.

Searching through the forums I pretty much found out the same thing everyone else has stated; Task Killers are NOT necessary, turn off GPS, BT, WiFi, 4G and 3G (especially the option to constantly search for WiFi, 4G and 3G signals) when not in use (which is extremely easy to do w/ the shortcut keys), and adjust the intervals of all the auto-synced apps so that they're not always searching for new information (for instance Facebook and Twitter every 4 hours, Weather every 3 hours, turn off Talk and Latitude since I have no interest in using either, etc.).

Something I've found useful since I have WiFi in my home is I leave 3G off and let the Evo use WiFi (a HUGE upgrade from the Hero. WiFi never successfully connected on my Hero for some reason). Since I have a great WiFi connection at home the Evo's not wasting energy searching for a good connection. It's better than having the phone search for a good 3G connection (I'm surrounded my taller buildings that make the signal not so great). I turn WiFi off and turn 3G on when going outside.

Another tip is to turn all the aforementioned options off when going to bed. I try to charge the phone as much as I can at night, unplug it before going to sleep (as has been mentioned in other threads, leaving the battery charging after its at 100% THEN unplugging can drain 10% of juice rather quickly), plug it back when I wake up, turn WiFi (or 3G if you prefer) on and press the Sync shortcut so that all my apps are updated in the morning.

Hope this helped!

I'm a heavy user-I work outside and use the internet all day long. I reduced the screen brightness, set it to go datrk in the shortest amount of time, turned off updates on everything so it only gets information when I open it (except yahoo mail-I can't seem to turn that off0 and my battery lasts much longer. My 3G antenna isn't working right now (I probably need to get a new phone since I have neither wifi at home nor a good, steady 4G signal and once again the battery drains really fast.
