SGS to get Gingerbread in February...

I'll take this with a grain of salt.
Samsung keeps saying that Froyo is coming soon. Assuming it comes by the end of December or in January. I don't see them immediately releasing an update for 2.3
Logic would dictate that they are going to skip Froyo all together, but as I mentioned above, they keep saying that they will release it for US phones.
 
Something is gonna go down and soon. So either froyo is coming next week or they are skipping it and go gingerbread in Feb. To much static everywhere forbore all robbery speculation
 
this is how people are brought to think samsung is promising dates. Too many people spreading rumors then too many people believing them and getting upset when it is not true. Until you get an official release date set by samsung then at&t dont believe it. I am really tired of people taking water cooler talk as fact.
 
First off he doesn't even site where he got his info from except for the India Twitter page.

Second if it even has any truth to it he is probably referring to the international Galaxy S. If you haven't noticed the state side version doesn't follow the same page as the the international version.

Don't get your hopes up until you hear from Samsung USA.
 
This site says we already have Froyo, which we don't because it's for the international phones. I mean, let's say in the rare case, they are right, it's only for Froyo. I say just wait for the new ROM's, I think the people at XDA dumped the ROM for the Nexus S and will start making Gingerbread ROM's, so yeah.

Also, I'd just like to say to NOT believe in this. I wish I can compile up all these threads, starting with:
-Froyo Will come out in September with a GPS Fix, Froyo coming out in late September, Froyo coming out Oct 15th, Froyo coming out mid november, Froyo coming out early December, etc. I think there's a point where you just give up. It's like looking at the end of the world dates, and when you're like, 80, you realize that several "apocalypse" dates have passed by and you're still alive. Give up on Samsung, ROM's are the way to go (unless you're happy with Eclair).

And that quote shows how very little Josephw knows about the situation.
 
Cognition will have a Gingerbread rom out before Samsung US even decides to put 2.3 on the US Galaxy phones.

Don't waste your time waiting around for Samsung, its not going to do you any good.
 
I agree. I just came from XDA and they have downloaded the code and are starting to work on GB now. I have more faith in XDA to get this done than ATT and Samsung.
 
Gingerbread in February. Yeah sure. Also:

My Captivate got Froyo as soon as I rooted it and loaded Cognition 2.3b_ onto it ^_^

I suspect that I'll be getting Gingerbread as soon as DesignGears makes a working Gingerbread ROM. Considering the hardware similarities between the Nexus S and the Captivate, I suspect that won't take very long. ;)

Darky's rom is very much like GB....but others are working on it...soon my cappy will ne GB baby..

And I agree.....these threads r useless...we have no clue about Froyo and people want GB

Wishful thinking is good, but not over the limit...

Not everyone wants or should be expected to hack their phone up with some ROM that's been patched up using pieces from other hardware to sort of work (but with issues) on their phone. These ROMs aren't bug free, aren't simple to install, carry significant risk, and void your warranty.

If you do find a bug with Cognition 2.3.b7, please do tell. It's been about the 10th beta update , I think, to the Froyo ROM they made, meaning that they probably fixed any problems that were in the previous updates. The changes that are being made version to version include new features and speeding up the phone (ex. the 7th beta has the Gingerbread keyboard) and it works more bugfree than when I had stock Eclair. It does not really involve "hacking", but yeah, you're not forced to update to Froyo, but you can't complain you don't have it either.

As for the Gingerbread ROM, they're working on it right here and as you can see, there's a lot of progress being done on a daily basis. After these people are done, I'm sure different devs will use this to come out with their own Gingerbread ROM's, so overall, good news in the XDA world.
