Help Evo OEM Charging Cord (secret behind crap battery?)

(first of all, im sorry if this has already been mentioned. i searched but didnt see any threads talking about this.)

Alright, a week or so after i got my Evo i was getting pretty annoyed with the wretched battery life, so i got my mom to take me to the sprint store so we could see if there were any solutions. Basically, we ended up talking about batteries and OEM and stuff and the the worker told me how the Sprint usb cable is different from the other types of cables. He said how it will stop charging the phone once it reaches 100% to protect the battery whereas 3rd party cables will not. I was wondering if maybe this is the reason that the whole "topping off" technique is needed to get a proper charge and why the problem mentioned here:

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-tips-tricks/102858-people-whos-battery-go-100-90-matter-minutes.html

exists.

its simple to tell whether or not this is the case of course, does anyone have battery problems after charging with a 3rd party cable?

I believe it is the software not the cable.

He (the employee) is full of crap. I have 4 different chargers lying around. The stock one is at my nightstand. My old Hero charger is at work. I have 2 Monoprice USB chargers also, one in my living room and the other in my kitchen. The Hero and Monoprice chargers have Monoprice 15' USB cables on them. All of them charge my stock Evo battery pretty much the same.

and im guessing battery sucks just the same?

COMPLETELY false. That guy has NO clue what he is talking about. A cable is a cable, there arent different ones that charge different ways. The charging circuits in the phone are what control how it charges. Yes, once the charge reaches 100% it will stop charging, until it gets to 90%, then charge back to full. Most phones do this now.

If you are getting bad battery life, the first thing to remember is this is a smartphone. It basically has the power of a computer, with a tiny battery. If you were to run a laptop on that battery, it would probably last 10 minutes.

With that being said, you will be lucky to get a full 24 hours out of your phone. If you use it at all, you will more than likely get about 6-10 hours. The best thing to do is read the threads on here about battery life. A big drain on the battery is syncing, if you have things that are syncing too often, or things you dont need to sync, that will kill th ebattery.

Even if this were the case, which I doubt, it would be better to have the battery protected against overcharging as it could damage it and you would have even less battery life. Im easily pulling 18 hours out of my phone. I do have 4G and wireless turned off most of that time since Im at work but it gets alot of web and video game usage. I dont talk much but regularly send out well over 200-250 text messages a day with it.

It's not great. My desk is in the basement of a building built as a war factory/bomb shelter so I get pretty terrible signal. I got a cheap extended battery from eBay that doesn't seem to be too great, so I also bought a Seidio from Amazon. I can get from "wake up in the morning" to "go to bed" on workdays on a single charge on the Seidio, but not much more. Haven't had the battery on a non-workday yet; we'll see how tomorrow goes.
