 There are already rooted ROMS using the build as a base.....Why would you accept the OTA? Doing so (like you're experiencing), you'll always lose root and have to wait for a root exploit to get it back. Anyways, to answer you question, there isn't a one click method yet for this build, so you'll have to wait for a root exploit.

sorry but im new to all this root stuff, thanks for the advice. so how do i get this ROM so i can continue to update my phone without having to wait anymore?

Thats the thing.. now you have to wait. Just keep checking back here until someone posts up the root method or the link to the unrevoked application.

Just for your future reference and everyone else who reads this, never update your phone via OTA. You will probably not be able to root for a long time, and you will break the root you have.
Always always do the updates yourself, if you are confused as to how to do it, search here, read, and ask questions
:)

Basically you are back to a stock phone now, for future reference, a well as stated above never accept ota's when rooted, these devs are pretty quick with getting out a rooted version if any major update usually with in a few hours... At any rate just keep your eye on the unrevoked & other rooting threads to see when a solution is out for your current version, I'm not up to date on all the latest root methods but I'm sure someone will break it soon, if not already. I'd go look around the development thread for your phone over at xda to get a better idea of where things are at.

thanks for all the helpful tips! i guess now my next venture is to learn how to update it myself. thanks again!

You know, if you've got S-off (unrevoked forever), flashing any rom (even an OTA) is no big deal. public:forever [RootWiki].

I was just gonna say, depending which root method you used initially, you could be s-off still, if you used unrevoked forever. Boot into your bootloader (hold power and volume down simultaneously) When it boots into the white screen, with android guys on skateboards or something, what hboot version does it show at the top (should be 2.1 if you took the 3.70 update) and does it say S-On or S-Off. If it says S-On, the only thing you can currently do to root is follow this thread [ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02/2.10 SOFF - No Practice All Game Edition - Upd. 12.21.10 - xda-developers. If you're not comfortable with ADB, I wouldnt jump right into that. Read up and learn about it if you are going to try that. If you follow the instructions to the letter, read it about 10 times, you should be alright, otherwise wait for Unrevoked to put out a new exploit. If you got lucky, and you are S-OFF, you need to flash a custom recovery, preferably Amon Ra. I have never had to do that, but I believe, in theory, you could download ROM manager, and super user from the market, open ROM manager, select 'flash clockworkmod recovery', then scroll down and select 'flash alternate recovery', and that should flash Amon Ra. If that all worked, from this point, you should be able to boot into recovery, and flash whatever ROM you want. If I'm wrong, and it didn't work (as I said, I've never had to do that) I also believe that you could load a zip file of Amon Ra on to the root of your sd card and flash it from the bootloader. Someone please correct this if I'm wrong. Good luck, and as the other guys said, don't take OTA updates in the future once you're rooted up again.

Do this method, it's easy. I just got my Evo last week with no prior knowledge of rooting or adb. but the instructions are simple and easy to follow. I got root last night and flashed custom rom(s) and kernel. Just follow the instructions and there ya go. It took me about 15mins total.

Thank you so much for your info. I was having the same problem as everybody else. I'm rooted with unrevoked, have swype already on my phone, do I really need this update? For now, I don't think so!!! I'll wait "till UNREVOKED comes out with an update.

To all of you reading this post...... YOU BETTER WAIT TO UPDATE SOFTWARE THRU UNREVOKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D

i have two evo's one is updated to 3.70. the other isnt and its rooted.how do i check to see if my phone is S-on or S-off? the one i have rooted, i downloaded ROM manager, and flashed clockworkmod recovery. am i safe to update it without losing root now?

Check S status by turning off the phone, hold volume down + power until you get the boot screen. It'll show S status at the top.

So I just checked and mine is S-off.... Can I do the OTA and my root will still be there? I am only rooted with everything else stock.

Nevermind... I didn't read down to the above post. I guess I will wait for a new unrevoked to come out for the new update.

Just flash the new radios and a rom based on 3.70 and you will be updated.

Sorry for the stupid question. I am rooted running stock ROM 3.29. Can I just install a new custom ROM (what do you recommend)? Do I need to flash new radios? I was always afraid to because I heard I would lose 4G. I primarily rooted to get wireless tether. I would love my Swype back.

Thanks,

Yes you can install a custom ROM based on the new update.

Flashing radios is ROM specific. If the ROM is based on 3.70 then you will likely have to flash radios. There might be some developers that include the radios in their ROMs.

I am on Myn's Warm and he has not put out a ROM based on 3.70 yet. I will wait until he does. Currently, his latest is based on 3.30 although he himself has said he will have something coming out very soon.

Thanks, I put Fresh on and tried to install the radios. I got an error installing the PRI and NV but the phone seems to work fine. Am I missing anything. My 4G was downloading at around 6M but when tethered to my IPAD I only got about 500K. Any thoughts to why the tethered speed is so slow?

I read good things about Myn's but I heard it doesnt have 4G.

Unless otherwise stated, every sense based rom for the Evo has 4g working, including myn's. I don't know where you heard that it doesn't. As previously mentioned, myn's is currently based off 3.30, but RLS5, based on 3.70, is currently in beta.

EDIT: wrap beat me to it again. That's what I get for not refreshing first :p.
