Root Would someone mind posting a guide on how to overclock the CPU with Velocity v0.4?

But I don't have a clue on how to use it. Can someone please post a "Using the CPU script for Dummys" guide?

Could I just install setCPU and be done with it? Is there any reason setCPU cannot be used on Velocity v0.4?

Open terminal emulator.
type SU hit enter
type cpu xxx hit enter xxx is your desired frequency. it will ask if you want interactive or on demand.

Also, what is the difference between interactive and on demand? What is preferable?
 
Interactive is when the device is being used it will clock up.
On demand is when it clocks up when needed.

I use interacive and like it better.
 
One more question and I'll quit being a pest.... LOL

What frequency choices do I have? I'm at 729 right now. I choose that right off the bat because I remembered that from set CPU. I tried going to 750 and 777 and it wouldn't take. I want to just go up a little at a time and test. I know 787 is one.
 
Wanna know what's a real bummer? I ran identical benchmarks on mine at 787Mhz against the wife's bone stock Droid 2 and hers just CRUSHED mine. Hers hit 14.xx WhatchamacallitFLOPS and mine was only in the high 8's.

Well, 1ghz TI omap in the D2 vs the Ally's ancient Qualcomm. 2.1 vs 2.2 running the D2, among a few other things.

However, the source built Froyo ROM for the Ally hits around 10 mflops but it's not a completed product. When the official LG Froyo build drops and custom ROMs are made, I can see that number getting close to 14.

btw...'WhatchamacallitFLOPS' made me giggle, thanks for making my morning at work slightly less shitty.
 
I actually found a "class 10" 16GB SD card on Newegg recently for only $30, so I am using that now. :D

So the card is plenty fast enough. But I am not sure I want to change ROMs just yet. It seems the more I read about them the more I get the general feeling that people are 'jumping around a lot' to try different ROMs. That suggests to me that they may not be very happy with any particular one. However, I do seem to run across the Velocity ROM more than any other names which stick in my mind. So maybe I am just being overly cautious here.

My goal is to smooth out Angry Birds. I was playing around with stopping all but the most essential processes today trying to play the game, and it still varies widely in its performance even with hardly anything else running. I think it is the game itself (probably all those ads - I wish they would make an ad-free retail version so I could buy it). Using airplane mode helps a little, but it is not a permanent solution, especially since I like to keep the phone as being a "phone" when playing.

So you are quite happy with Velocity? If I tried it I would like a clear path of escape back to VZC if needed.

Try adfree android from the market. Have to be rooted.

I'll admit... I jump around a lot, but it's not because I am not happy. I've become such a pro at flashing ROMs, I can try one out and then try another, then go back all within an hour. I use AppBrain and it instantly puts all my apps back and Gmail puts all my phone numbers back, so swapping ROMS is totally painless.

Think of it this way: Your driving around in a Dodge Neon which runs and drives but is kind of 'meh', but sitting in a parking lot is a 2011 Mustang GT, a 2011 Camaro SS, a 2011 Challenger R/T and a 'vette. Then there's a big sign that reads "Free test rides, then take home whatever one you like FOR FREE." Wouldn't you want to jump in and test out each and every one of those before keeping one? So, lets say you choose to keep the Mustang after testing them all out. It's not that the Camaro or the Challenger were lame or anything. You just happen to like something about the Mustang that made you want to keep it over the others. Either way, no matter what car you choose, you are still 100% better than that darn Dodge Neon.

I don't think it's a case of people are not happy with them. I think it's more of a case of once you have the option of doing different things with your phone, you'll want to change it up all the time. I know that's how it is with me. I've been through Velocity 0.3, Velocity 0.4, punisher, raptor and Froyo. So far, Velocity 4 is my favorite. I LOVED Froyo, but I need the camera on my phone.

Thanks for clarifying this. I didn't mean to say that it seemed like people only had problems. I guess I was just reading mostly posts where people wanted to revert and wasn't seeing the whole story.

@RyanJayx - I thank you too for the explanation. I have to agree with both of you, that given those opportunities I would certainly be tempted. But I did read about, as you mentioned, the lack of the camera (so far, I hope he figures it out in the end somehow) in the current Froyo dev under construction, and that would stop me too. I like getting cool things working, but I might not want to give up on the tools I have in order to get them.

I have been reading up on Velocity for the past hour or so. It does sound very tempting, especially now that Trident got version 0.4 working. Still a few questions in the back of my mind before I try it, but I just did a full SD backup in preparation for the attempt. :)

Thanks! I just installed adfree android to try out, but I will certainly keep this in mind. Can I use adfree android AND do the above ads script from terminal concurrently, or won't that work correctly?
