Root .SBF'ing with a Mac or...without?

BoLTroid

Newbie
Hey Ya'll,

I'm looking for some guidance for how I can upgrade myself to 2.3.340. I know by reading through the forums that I have to:
1) Get the full .320 SBF, and do that.
2) Get the .340 System only SBF, and then do that.

I am currently running on:

2.3.15, with a Bootloader of 30.01, running Rubix 1.8.9.

I want to get to load up Rubix 1.9.5, but it recommends to be on .340.

So, I know how to do all this, BUT!! I have a Mac! Which means, No RSD Lite for me.

Can I simply follow the directions through Rootzwiki on "How to SBF Using Linux" terminal, with my Mac Terminal? Would that be the same thing?

I have Nandroids of:
1) 2.3.9 stock
2) 2.3.15 with Nextheme.
3) Original 2.1 Back-to-Stock.

Any advice on what options I have, including my Mac, or without?

Thanks!

I was in the same boat as you.

Just SBF the full .230 and then get the OTA.

You don't need to sbf the .340. That would just be redundant.

You don't have to sbf at all. The update.zip to take you straight to .340 is out there. I have a mac and never had to sbf to update.

That won't work because he's running Rubix.

OP, I'm pretty sure the only way to SBF on a mac is to boot into windows through a vm or bootcamp.

i like to know the answer to the mac question as well. i run windows xp on my mac via parallels, but id love a mac only solution. i sbf'd through parallels.

Fantastic, thanks for all the tips.

So, all I need to do is:
1) Nandroid back to my 2.1 Stock, or 2.3.15 w/ Nextheme, and use 928 to go back to stock?

2) and use the update.zip file to get to .340.

Now.....

Where do I find that .340 update.zip file? I've been scouring the pages here, and on MyDroidWorld to find it. Anyone got an idea where to get that update.zip from??

You cannot do it with a mac unless you have windows on bootcamp.

I have a macbook pro with Windows 7 64 bit professional. That flavor of windows is actually the most annoying to use because there are some USB driver issues. I had to mess with it a bit to get the phone recognized and the drivers downloaded and installed correctly.

do NOT try to SBF from a virtual machine (parallels etc). I do not recommend this because for some reason the host machine may take over the USB and that just sounds like a sticky situation.

I also recommend SBFing over update.zip because it wipes your phone. Think of it as a rebirth haha.

I've got it, I'll send it to you when im home.

And thanks for all the tips on using Bootcamp, and vm. Although I like the idea, I don't have the money or really want to spend money on the software to do that to have my Mac run like Windows.

I know...I'm being kind of a stickler for money and making it more difficult on myself that way.

But I still...can't I use Mac Terminal, like I would a "Linux Terminal", and have that do the same thing?
