droid has tough display

Remarkably durable, but not scratch proof. Got micro scratches on my first Droid from simply being in my jeans pocket with nothing else in the pocket to scratch it.

I bet if you gave me that dude's Droid after he scratched it up with car keys, I'd find microfiber scratches somewhere on the screen.

As has been posted many times in other threads, sand will easily put a hurtin' on your Droid's screen in zero seconds flat...

well sure, it's possible to scratch. it's not made out of diamond. :) but it's cool that they put in the extra effort to make it more difficult to damage.

edit: i've had my screen unprotected since launch day. i carry it in my pocket, and not a single scratch yet. i don't keep it in the same pocket as my keys though.

Gorilla glass is great. I've been impressed since getting the Cowon S9 over the summer. It's seen a lot of abuse and not a single scratch.

Gorilla Glass Demonstration on Vimeo

Maybe if you had a free weekend and Mjǫllnir, hammer of Thor, you could crack Corning's Gorilla Glass. But that's a made-up thing! And this stuff is impervious to the very real threats of key scratching and localized pressure.

Gorilla Glass is an unscratchable, unshatterable material used as a protective window for your mobile phone, PMP, or laptop display. It's in 65 products already, and I can assure you that the very nice man from Corning is not faking it. Your intrepid reporter also gave this several tries with all his blogger strength, and couldn't make a dent. I was, however, able to scratch the heck out of some polycarbonate.

gorilla glass is not indestructible after all. because your pic totally melted my screen.

and the peanut gallery groans...

my screen has 5 cracks in it.
1 happened 15 hrs after a drop. i woke up to it.
4 more a week later for no reason. i was holding it. looked at it. looked away. a minute later i saw the cracks.

ughhhhhhhhh

The whole sand will hurt your phone thing isn't. Really all that true with the droid. I live
In the desert and I know my old phones will be all scrached up after a few days. Its been a couple
Weeks now and the screen still looks great. I think the screen protector I used to have on
It showed more wear and tear the the screen does..

My Droid and the car mount fell off the windshield (twice, actually) and picked up a nice scratch on the screen. Apparently a single piece of sand will scratch it.

My droid fell off the top of my Corolla last night, face down, onto concrete and nothing happened to the screen. However, I did get some nice scratches to the side of the phone. :(

Was it because your accelerator stuck. :p Sorry could not resist

that gorilla video is overrated.. it doesnt look like an 'informational video' rather a video for promotional purposes

there are plenty of people who have cracked their droid's screen
