Help Samsung Galaxy S - Indian thread

I would say go for desire hd, it will cost u 27k, or max 27.5 k via flipkart.
NO galaxy dont have the best hardware, it just hv very good display, and good battery life( though i hv seen many people complaining abt that also in this thread).
Desire hd takes over galaxy s on
1. camera,
2. ram,
3. built quality(unibody alluminium vs cheap plastic),
4. os(it hv htc sense),
5. preloaded maps for offline navigation(which might cost u around 1.5k if u buy that app seprately),
6. Screen size(although screen size of desire hd is bigger than galaxy overall size is almost same, with DHD being thicher)
7. Led flash
8. Nd the two u yourself mentioned...

Ps: DHD dont hv front camera, so dont go it if u r looking for video calling. Also i u dont like charging ur phone every now and then, forget DHD its battery life runs only a day.

I am also deciding b/w these two, but i hv almost made my mind.

all said.. i am checking the battery life and i am not at all impressed with its 8-9 hrs of regular usage. and graphics wise its still a doubtful entity.

again i start my research.

-If it is stopped production this soon. Future Updates? I know very well about samsung policy of updates, they ignore past products and give u new better product.
-Is it any way related to Nexus S, as spec wise Galaxy S slightly out scores it. Or production problems due to same hardware on both.
-Desire HD - good phone, but my friends thrash HTC for poor battery life:D.

Will just keep searching more.

Thats what i said htc sucks in battery performance, but samsung sucks everywhere else.
Galaxy being similar to nexus dosent mean it will get 2.3 soon or even 3.0, samsung will take its own time, probably more than htc.
I hv been searching for a smartphone for about 2-3 months now.
i dont know how much u care but, according to me after sales service matters a lot, in which htc is way better than samsung. Plus galaxy s looks like its cousin galaxy 3, i m not talking about show off but seriously if i spend 27k on a cellphone, it should look like i hv spent that much amount.

Ok After 3 hrs of comparing some param FOR ME
Code:
  Features GalaxyS Desire HD
  Front Camera Yes No
  TV Out Yes No
  Battery Bearable Pathetic
  Service Pathetic Unknown
  Updates Pathetic Bearable
  Interface Ok Best
  Video P/B Best Vanilla
  Camera Below par Ok
  Speakers Good Below Par
  Headset Ok Good
I might keep SGS with Froyo 2.2.1 for one year then root it. DHD i think can get Honeycomb in future. SGS can get nexus S ROM but void's warranty. I am still leaning towards Galaxy S bcoz of Video Codec it supports out of the box TV Out, GPU. (Any day stock outperforms 3rd party video player in CODEC suport.) DHD seams to beat SGS with graphics, but with 8 hrs of battery, i simply cannot use it to full potential.

Its about prefrence, i m still going with htc desire hd, but i would say that if u love galaxy, u should probably wait for nexus atleast a week or two.

exactly. I would go for nexus S but it doesnt have tv out, video codecs, and service in india(Warranty???). And i believe we can port nexus S rom to galaxy s. i might do it after warranty period. and Dude check Desire Z, it might have better battery, and price is less. And performance is almost GalaxyS, as it as GEN2 Snapdragon processor. Only thing is small screen with qwerty. But again its ur liking and preferences. :p

Ya i hv considered desire z, but still dhd hv faster processor 1ghz vs 800mhz, more ram, and above all better looks (i love dhd's unibody alluminium deisgn).
Ne ways thanks.

1. Camera is ok in sgs. For real camera, get a canon.
2. Yes, dhd has bigger ram.
3. Sgs has cheap-feeling body, which contributes to its lightness but I don't mind al
4. Htc sense is better than touchwiz
5. The latest google maps has offline navigation too. There's brut maps that gives voice turn by turn navigation available for both devices.
6. True, screen size not too significant. But 4 inch super amoled will use less battery, and looks a lot more beautiful.
7. true.
8. GPS and lag problem have been greatly reduced in the latest froyo 2.2.1

Battery life its excellent. I can get past 24 hours for battery for moderate usage.

I doubt sgs will get official future updates. Fortunately gingerbread port is making progress, unofficial of course.

if one can do research 2-3 months, you might a well get a dual core smartphone. Out its around the corner.

My girlfriend feels that that my sgs like a premium phone. So do I.it all comes down to personal judgement. (Despite of the plastic body)

Sgs has the best graphic processor. I read an anandtech review that shows lower benchmark but that is because sgs fps is capped at 56fps.

Again, sgs has an excellent battery.

Don't bother with nexus s. Wait for a few weeks and get dual core tegra 2(nvidia) phones from LG,Motorola,Samsung and others. It will blow current smatphones away.

Dual core means faster processor and less battery usage! It has amazing Gpu from nvidia too.

To be announced in a few days at CES. It took a month for sgs to arrive in India.hopefully these phones can arrive as quickly as well.

Yup good point made. LG Star might make it for CES. but launch date will be 1-2 months and hope it comes to India simultaneously. rest will take 4-5 months and only Samsung/LG can launch faster in India. HTC, Moto can take their own time. I can wait for two days and check when is the launch date of Star and then make my smart choice.

Seriously i cant wait more, my current phone nokia 5800 is dead now, n i dont want to spend more money on it to get it repaired.
Camera on on dhd is not comparable to cannon but certainly better than sgs.
Plastic body is nowhere close to be compared with unibody aluminium.
I dont know how was gps earlier n how it is now but i hv found many people complaining abt it on this forum.
Google maps offline support is not same as is htc locations. Locations is similar to ovi maps, in which u can dwnld maps for whole country n load it on ur cellphone.
I need more ram than a better graphic processor, coz i'll be using multitasking more than playing heavy games ( for that i hv wii at home). What i'll using my phone more is for social networking sites i.e. Fb n twitter, which has better integration in htc sense.

Nothing can be said in defence of battery life of dhd, except 'yes it sucks.'

And just heard from unknown source of some next version of Galaxy S is being launched in next 10-15days. Probably Nexus S is launched by Samsung. That's why Galaxy S is being discontinued. Like Desire, might be tweaked a bit or the same. But FINGERS CROSSED. lets see.

I still believe sgs has better gpu (powervr sgx 540) vs adreno 2nd gen. But the difference won't matter because there are so few 3d games on the market right now. I strongly believe more 3d games will come for android once dual core phones hit the market.

If 3d games is one of your top priority, you should wait for upcoming tegra2 based phones. Borrow an unused or a cheap phone from your friend. I waited 2 yrs before buying my first android phone(sgs) since android was first announced.

The latest google maps caches, but doesn't download. Anyhow, I use brut maps(free) to download and store maps in the phone. It also gives free voice turn-by-turn navigation.

I read mixed response for battery life for dhd in xda developers. You have to make several cycle charges and it'll improve over time. Head over there.

Samsung hit the 10million sale target. I believe they want to discontinue it for nexus s.

Its selling like hot cakes. but might be due to NEXUS S or something similar that is being launched this month. Galaxy S 2 might come only by Q2 or Q3 i guess.
LG Optimus 2X will be around 35k or more. Good phone but 35k for LG is a joke for me as of now unless LG convinces me otherwise with phone and updates.

I have a very very strange problem with the stock Froyo Messaging. I am on the official Froyo 2.2, and Rooted the phone, and have applied the OCLF. Now the problem is that whenever I am in my messages, the Back key stops responding, as in I have to press it multiple times to get the back action completed. It works everywhere else without any hiccups. Is it only me or has anyone else experienced this issue ?

Jst flashed froyo 2.2.1. From samfirmware. Its rocking man.
gps quick lock.
rooted using cf-root
Restored all my apps and dats using TB.

Sigh!

The plastic body of galaxy has grown over me. I don't think I'll ever buy a phone that has a metal body ever.

Try holding a phone with aluminium unibody like htc hero/htc legend/iphone4 and you will change your mind about plastic body.

p/s You need to hold the iphone4 the right way to make a call :p

Anyone knows when 2.2.1 update is getting released to India?

Samsung are struggling to give froyo update to US users. Doubt it will come in near future. Try use a "kies registry hack" to get 2.2.1.

Good for you! I suggest flashing optimized kernels like hardcore/super optimized/damian gto

You can also try a few modems that will give you the best battery & radio performance. JPX may seem the best.

Dear fellow members i am running the 2.2.1 Froyo
i have successfully installed rom manager and flashed the latest clockworkMod Recovery 2.5.1.2

How easy is to use the "registry hack" to get 2.2.1? What can be the complications? And is it easy enough to revert back to 2.2 later?

Thanks in advance.
