Root Unrevoked 3.3 and Fresh 3.5.0.1 ROM

i have the latest EVO OTA 3.70.651.1 and have root through unrevoked 3.3. I've made a nandroid backup through the clockwork mod recovery, and I'm ready to install Fresh 3.5.0.1.

question is 1) do i need to run unrevoked again after the ROM run in order to get root again and reinstall the superuser app, and 2) is there any concern about switching back and forth between OTA 3.70-based roms and the commercial OTA 3.70 rom?

Any help is appreciated!

There are two "levels" of root - full root and partial root. No ROM out there (flashed through recovery that is, as basically all are) will take away full root. They don't touch hboot, and unrevoked sets s-off even lower than that anyway. Now, I suppose it's technically possible to end up with a ROM that doesn't have root, but you'd still have s-off. Basically every ROM out there, no matter how little has been modified, will at least be a rooted ROM. All that being said, once you have rooted, you have it for good unless you purposefully unroot. If you ever somehow end up with a ROM that isn't rooted, just flash a different one.

As far as switching back and forth, no, there is no real concern. Just make sure you keep nandroid backups of whatever you want to switch back to. If you started with the 3.70 OTA, then you have the latest radios, the only thing you should be careful about is flashing a ROM based off anything other than 3.70. You would probably need to downgrade your PRI. Other than that, don't worry about it.

Thanks for the reply. that's good info.

I went ahead and flashed Fresh 3.5 and all is well. I think it actually sped up my phone from the OTA 3.70 version, boot time also seems to be improved. we'll see how battery life fares...

I up dated to 3.5.1 Fresh and then tried flashing the radios now the phone wont stay on keeps restarting right after boot up. i tried wiping the data/cache and reinstalling fresh still get rebooted right after when the phone connects to sprint. so should i try reflashing the radios or is there a way to put the old radio back?

thanks

Which radios did you flash? Did you flash all of them? Where, specifically did you get them from?

You can get all the radios here, including older versions:

[ Radios ][ 12-17 ] All EVO Radio, WiMAX, PRI, NV & HBoot versions - xda-developers

The combo is only available for the latest, so you'll have to downgrade one at a time. If you are having issues, upgrade one at a time to find out what is causing instability. Otherwise, you can upgrade with the combo update.
