Help [Support] phonebook sync to gmail?

just curious how everyone syncs their phone's phone book to their online gmail account so that when you go to your gmail account on your computer, you can view your phone's contact list?

I looked in the forum and could only find syncing questions relating to facebook . thanks guys!

1) By default, your contacts should be Google contacts (rather than phone contacts). Go into the people app, and select a normal contact (not a facebook one, if you have that set up). In the top right, you will see the type of contact. If it's a Google contact, that's a good start. If it's not, I can go into more detail on how to convert them.

2) See if they are already in your Gmail by opening Gmail on your computer, then selecting contacts. It *should* match what you see on the phone. Is that what you're having a problem with?

3) Verify that you have auto sync enabled for Google contacts by going to:

menu->Settings->Accounts & sync->Google. Verify that "Sync contacts" is checked.

yeah i have the google sync checked in my settings but when i click on a non facebook contact, it just has the unlinked image and phone underneath


&yeah that's how i found out that they weren't synced, i went to my online gmail account and only email addresses that i saved a while ago show up under contacts. my friends evo literally ate his contacts last night and so i dont want this happening to me too haha

No problem .

Try this:

1) Open the People app.
2) menu->Import/Export->Export to SD card
3) You will get a popup asking which account to export. Presumably, your contacts are on the phone now, so choose "Phone"
4) Once that is done, do the same, but chose to import instead of export. You should be prompted to chose an account to import to. Choose Google.

Let me know if you have a problem with any of those steps, or if it just doesn't work.

Actually, I think you're supposed to delete the contacts before importing them. Oops. Though, that doesn't explain ending up with 6 of them... Did it do that for just the one?
