Help Weather widget won't find curent location

As the title says really...

The HTC clock with weather info is currently displaying the weather for a town 100 or so miles from my current location (I was there over Christmas) but when I click the clock to update the data, the screen where you can set alarms and the like has the weather for my current location.

If I then click into that again to do the update (the screen where you can select the weather for Barcelona, London, Paris etc) it is back to the twon 100 miles away.

I can't figure out why 2 screens have this other town and 1 screen has my actual town.

Use wireless networks is enabled in location settings, Google Maps knows where I am. I can't think of anything else!

I've tried turning it off and on again, I've tried deleting the widget and putting it back on the screen selecting current location as the default weather to display, but none of it is working.

Anyone got any ideas?! Its slowly driving me mad!!!

161 views and no responses?!

Anyone have an idea? Everything I've Googled so far doesn't have an answer for the new versions of HTC phones (basically with new Sense on) and they've not helped.

Mine thinks it's in Gothenburg and I'm actually located in North West UK. There's a response for you but probably not the one you were hoping for.

it determines location based on your network, and therefore need to have "use wireless networks" enabled under settings -> locations. and it needs to have a connection to the internet too, so once you are connected open the weather app and refresh which should work. apologies if you have done all of this already but thought it wouldnt harm to state the obvious...

Back ground data is on

Use wireless. networks is on

Makes no difference if im on WiFi or 3g

If i select a different clock it shows my location correctly. The desk clock screen shows my location cirrectly, its just updating the weather shows this other place I previously was.

Back in work tomorrow in yet another town so will see if that makes it fix Itself

Exact same issue here. Location is stuck to where I was over Christmas. Performed the OTA upgrade while I was there.
The clock widget shows the correct location and updates throughout the day. The weather widget doesn't.

I had this problem for about 3 weeks and played around with it here and there. today I was tired of it. after reading some threads and someone mentioning to use a new app. I decided to remove the widget from the screen and add it back, I had to click a location or current location. I selected current location and now it's fixed.

so anyone having this problem. delete the clock widget from the main screen. then go into your widget, select the clock, click current location and see if that works.

That was the first thing I tried and it didn't work. Just tried it again, and it still didn't work.

Also just tried reinstalling the locations app as suggested on XDA and that hasn't helped either

I emailed HTC the other day about this issue since the software update basically complaining and asking them when and how they would fix it.

The answer I got back was "do a factory reset"

turn wi-fi off, open weather widget, update weather via mobile Internet connection and it will work.

Thanks, but as I've said in previous posts, it makes no difference whether I'm on WiFi or mobile data. It will not change the location away from where I was when I did the software update.

u can try taking ur phone outside ur house and switch GPS on, then let it fix while keeping mobile internet connected, then see if it finds ur corrent location...

another thing to check for...open locations or google maps and see if u r able to see ur location correctly there

I have the same issue but seem to have fixed it by the following.

Drag the widget to edit and set the location to somewhere completely different. I chose San Francisco and then click done.

The weather and time update to this location. I then edited the widget again and set it to current location and it updated to my current location. I was using 3G and did not have GPS on.

didnt work for me. eventually, i went to each "weather" app and process under settings that sounded anything like "weather" or "location" and cleared the data/cache. now it doesnt show the previous location but just shows "current location" instead of the actual location name. any ideas how to get this sorted? i have tried everything i.e. locations enabled, wifi, 3g, sync, etc etc. but no luck. only thing that remains is to get a gps fix, and see if that resolves. perhaps might try that later today...

Just for an update on this.... has anyone got this issue working yet?

I've been in contact with HTC but I keep getting standard replies of "factory reset phone", "clear cache/data" which I've already tried, but nothing seems to work.

Roll on the next software update to sort out all the mess caused by the pre Christmas one.

I signed up for this forum today just so I could respond to this thread. I know it's old, but I just got the DINC 2 and have been having the exact same problem since day 1. It worked for a bit, then stopped. I cleared the data for the HTC Sense Weather Provider under running programs, and it worked for almost 24 hours. Then it went back to displaying "Current Location" and showing the wrong weather for my area. I was sooo ticked because it took me forever to get it back. I even did a factory reset (since I just got the phone, I didn't really have too much to lose), but it didn't help. When I read your post, however, about how the other clock widgets showed the correct area, I thought, hmmm, I've never even applied another clock widget. So I went to an empty area on another screen and put a small clock on there, and sure enough, it showed the correct location for me. And when I clicked on the name of my city, it showed the correct weather (although not the full 3 day forecast like the cool clock/weather widget, but still, better than nothing). I decided I would just use a different clock and click on my city's name if I wanted to see the current weather. I left the little clock on the screen and scrolled back to my home screen where I have my clock. As SOON as I went back to that screen, it updated my city and weather correctly! I am not sure what caused it to kick back into the correct location, but now I am scared to take the little clock off the other screen lol. I am though. I need to test it out and see if it still works when I remove it. If that will keep the widget working though, I will just keep one on another screen at all times. It will be worth it not to obsess over this anymore. Hope it works for you too. Make sure you do clear the data for that HTC Weather Sync Provider.

ETA: Well, I removed the other little small clock, and refreshed my clock/weather widget, and YES, it is still holding the location correctly. I expect this may happen again in the future. Hopefully, though, doing this will fix it each time. I love my clock/weather widget and I don't want to use anything else. :) I am going to try it on my husband's phone when he gets up. His has started showing the city just to the south of us (about 15 miles, so the weather is pretty close, but still annoying), and we can't get it to update back to our podunk town. I hope it works for his too. If it does, I will know I've found a real fix for this problem. Even if it switches back occasionally, it's still better than it being stuck on the wrong city permanently.

Ah well. My success and happiness was short-lived. About 20 minutes later, it switched back to "Current Location". Gee, I sure wish I knew where "Current Location" is. It sure isn't here.

I did everything i could find nothing helped. 3g update weather no problem, i connect me htc desire hd to another wifi router and all works. I have problem with me router or provider in me cause.
