Help Will the unlocked HTC Desire HD work in India?

@AndroidFreud

I had no idea that Flip would choose FF for the delivery, heck I would have shelled out 2-3k more just to ship it via DHL/BlueDart if I had known earlier.

Plan a Bangalore-Chennai one day trip. Advantage: Guaranteed mighty DHD for you and that trip will cost you less than Rs.3,000. Another advantage is, get it opened by the retailer etc. :)

PS - Just checked out the following itinerary:
Chennai to Bangalore Tatkal quota, 8th Jan in Shatabdi 12007 (Dep Chennai 6 AM, Arrival Bangalore 10:50 AM, 1AC - Rs.1300, CC - Rs. 680.

Buy your DHD. :)

While returning enjoy quality music, track your train move on GPS, enjoy HD quality video and surfing etc. on your DHD, Bangalore to Chennai Tatkal quota in 1AC, 8th Jan in Shatabdi 12008 (Dep Bangalore 16:25, Chennai arrival 21:25) - 1AC - Rs. 1425 ,CC - Rs. 750. :)

Other cheaper options are biking (let me know if you come by bike), by bus. :)

guys I scored a century with my DHD...not like Sachin though :)

I had installed a 100 apps + games on my DHD and I am very very happy to say its rocking flying as blazing fast, no sign of lag what so ever....

I remember installing 100 apps + games in my SGS, it use to struggle to open menus

so yeah happy century for me with DHD :) :d

Ok, so FINALLY, I got my HTC DESIRE HD!!!!! WoooHOOOOO!!!!! :D :D :D
The instrument is simply awesome - all that hype and concern about the display being not as good as the SGS/iPhone4 etc went out the room as soon as I turn it on. For those of you who haven't got it yet and have only been able to salivate at the compressed YouTube video footage of comparisons of the phone and saw the poor viewing angle - I can assure you the camera adds a ton of glare and exaggerates how bad the viewing angles are. Granted the viewing angle will still be better on an AMOLED screen but this things screen is still SIMPLY AWESOME - and I played around with the DroidX, SGS, N8, iPhone4 physically!!! (In fact I was quite surprised at the illegibility of the iPhone4 in direct sunlight - could barely see much - I'm not sure though if that user had turned down his brightness or what but it wasn't good at all.

Will come back to post more on the unboxing experience and the initial setup and any issues I had (not any really - it even connected successfully to Sense & has the 7 home screens etc- but the website login seems to be stuck on loading.)

More news later! Going to go back and drool....

@Noda

Sorry to hear that Noda. I was very skeptical too until I received my unit last night. The courier they used to ship to me was Aramex, which from what you wrote sounds like a better option than FirstFlight. They always answered their calls, were courteous on the phone but didn't really have a clue as to where my package was and unnecessarily assured me with wrong information.

After threatening to e-mail all their super bosses (one good thing was all the top people's e-mail ids are listed on the Aramex website under contacts) The delivery guy who showed up said that this wasn't even his route but someone at Aramex had put out an urgent immediate dispatch on my delivery last evening and so he had to come out of his way to make sure he delivered it yesterday. He refused to let me open the box to check but I said, yeah let me just hold that inside my house for you while I go get the cash :) .
So, we took the box in first without making payment and quickly opened it up to check if everything was halal.

The Flipkart delivery comes in a sealed plastic Flipkart bag, inside which was a mildly beaten up looking brown shipping box (small) and inside that wrapped in bubble wrap and taped with Flipkart tape was the original HTC box (a little smaller than about 1/4th the size of a shoe box).

It was all good & the HTC box was in pristine condition - no dog ears. Made the payment to the guy (he didn't ask for any tip or anything which was nice- he just wanted to rush to the other end of town which was his actual route).

Flipkart seems dependable and it looks like they have a bigger problem with their choice of courier services which always seems to have been a problem in India (in my experience so far at least)

Have faith Noda, I'm sure they will put pressure to send the package through and it will reach you. Call the courier service more than FK and badger them into sending it to you immediately. See if you can speak to the manager or if the website lists any big wigs who you can refer when you strong arm them.

All the best! When you get the piece, I promise you are going to LOVE IT!!!! It's incredible.

Hi All,

I tried out the Desire HD navigation maps. It works flawlessly with Turn by Turn voice directions . I was using it in Bangalore.

Initially it gave a pop-up saying that data connection would be used for first time, it then showed a message like "Acquiring License file". This is a 1 month trial after which you have to do a yearly subscription(Not sure of the cost). There was zero lag between my position and the one depicted on the screen.

Overall, it seems to be a very good experience & I prefer it to MapMyIndia map's which are not that user friendly.

@Freud

man my freaking parcel was with my landlord for the past week.......!!
and he lives below my room wth lol
anyways the courier service called me up a while ago and said

FF "Sir we delivered the parcel and its with your landlord"
Me "WTF when"
FF "on the 30th ^.^ (its the 5th today)"
Me "omgwtfbbqrofllol why wasnt I notified"
FF " "
Me "You guys fail"
FF "I hope this issue is resolved, thank you sir, click (phone hangs up)"

When I heard this I was already running down the stairs half naked, past 3 dogs tied near the Land Lords house, and I ended up aggroing them and causing mass chaos..

Anyways the LL (landlord) says I have no clue what your talking about
Me X_X

I run back to my room to get my roomate to speak to the LL in tamil to make sure he understood what I meant....

The LL then finds the parcel somewhere in his house hidden by his grandmother...

Anyways I finally got the DHD and just like Freud said the set looks amazing, all the videos I have seen doesnt do any justice to the screen, because it doesnt look all that good in the vidz but its just amazing in hand....

Well this is my first android phone so I am reading up on the how tos and what ifs atm, all in all i love the phone, but im so pissed at the LL for not telling me anything abt the parcel..... so I cant really enjoy it atm... I need to think happy thoughts for a while..

dude u gotta give some sweets to ur LL and the grandmom :)

HTC should hear about these interesting stories of how ppl here are trying desperately to get their hands on DHD and after all this they keep on ignoring India

No, I have used it on a Friends HTC EVO 4G(got free in Google IO conference) on a long trip & the UI was very counter-intuitive. We wanted to go to Hotel Pai in JP Nagar & it routed us to Banashankari in Bangalore. Finally we ended up asking directions to roadside people.

Hi,

Just looking at the posts regarding Flipkart's late delivery. I got my Desire HD exactly 3 working days after ordering. First Flight courier dropped it at my office. Seems like delivery to Bangalore is good since their warehouses are in Bangalore only so no real delays due to transportation as such.

Also, regarding the debate about brown vs black colour, Personally, having seen both side by side I feel the brown DHD is more classier than the black one & gives some uniqueness to the phone in these times of black slate type touch phones.

Go for it guys. DHD is the undisputed No. 1 of smart phones right now.

Guys just check out this great software.. U can sync your itunes playlists to your DHD just like your iphone (ipod in my case). I was missing this feature in my DHD becoz its lot easy to manage music in your ipod via itunes than simply copying it in memory card..
You can also do it with HTC Sync but its a bit indirect method i guess..

Binary Fortress Software ~ iTunes Sync

EDIT: Seems like dis bin file only copies music from itunes to sd card. It donot create playlist in music player of DHD. Anyway of creating playlists in DHd just like ipod...?????

what is the problem you are facing... i use vodafone too.. and what are you using Vodafone GPRS or Vodafone Mobile Connect.. i don't think the DHD supports normal GPRS provided by Vodafone.. you need to get separate plans for that.. whatever the case.. what is the exact problem you are facing with these apps???

I have activated vodafone live on my DHD and it is working in browser. I can surf pages in the browser but my problem is that I can't connect to the weather or friends stream using vodafone live. Using wifi all are working fine.

i guess you should talk to vodafone guys to help you out.. i don't see any reason why the browser works and the apps don't..

just report the problem to them and see if they can help you out with any settings or any other stuff..

apps will not work with vodafone live (its only for browsing), you need to get mobile connect for that.

same thing happens with airtel live on every phone i have tried.

I search on google about it and found that android applications will not work on Vodafone live and Airtel live as there services are using HTTP proxy. So now I have just placed the activation request for mobile connect to vodafone.

once u have VMC connected on your phone just check if the stock browser provided by Andriod works.. for me it did not... if it does not for you too.. just install firefox or opera from the market.. both of them work like a charm..

this seems to be not good for vodafone customers, bcoz stock browsers of froyo ia better and light weight than firefox and skyfire, flash works very smooth in stock...

Airtel mobile office is good then bcoz once u activate it and moreover for pre paid its already activated, mine is post paid and it works perfect with all apps and browsers

hey punk_19, you were very right with DHL tracking when we order from expansys, I ordered some accesories and they have given me a tracking for DHL which is very detailed and they display all the details of the pachage as to where it is etc...very nice...so expansys + DHL will be the choice :)
