yeah i suppose we ll see if the build is usable or not as its building while he sleeps :)
 
Yea Samsung has shot themselves in the Foot with updates. I think the only 2 Giants that could be trusted with updates is HTC and Moto. And to be honest I'm tired of both those companies, I had an Evo already, and the new Thunderbolt is said to not even have a SuperAmoled and just an LCD! Sorry I'm spoiled by my Fascinates screen. However the new LG phones that are being outed at CES Thursday look insanely sick.

i thought samsung was the only one with the superamoled, so why would the htc thunerb9olt not having one suprise you?

yeah samsung has kept samoled for themselves and fallen so far behind on amoled supply that htc seems to have ditched it for slcd for good.

id assume once samoled 2 is out they ll start supplying samoled 1 to other oems however
 
I might be late to the party on this, but it looks like 2.2 will come with a pretty spiffy upgrade to the stock browser which takes better advantage of the GPU in our phone.

As annoyed as I am with the delay, if Samsung ends up delivering an update that adds this kind of polish, I suppose it might be understandable.

That said, the reasoning behind sending it out as one, late update rather than breaking it up into two eludes me...

I had an HTC Droid Eris, and I can tell you....we waited FOREVER for the 2.1 update, and when I got it, it messed up my Eris. I had many bugs like the Silent Call bug, which meant my phone never rang when people called, and sometimes I could never hear anything on the other end of calls. Verizon sent me 3 Droids, all with the same issue.

I am more than happy to wait until they get 2.2 juuuuust right. ;)

HTC/Verizon really half-assed it. I'm an Eris refugee also. However, I will be going back to HTC or with Motorola for my next device.

Well, I assume it's as functional as the general SGS port is... Which is pretty good, but not entirely working (no sensors functional, LQ video problem due to framebuffer, and wifi sleep = crash). But we'll see.

kies does have a verizon fascinate section...but all you can download is the program and user manual

its unlikely a verizon samsung device would ever utilize it though

I sit corrected.
The VZW version was just put up this week and just a heads up Nitsuj, you can click on the .exe to the right of the link and d/l it, which is what I am doing as I type this :p

yes you can download the program...id still bet anything we (verizon customers) will never use kies for an upgrade....kies is notorious for leaks or early updates (for the captivate, i 9000, vibrant) verizon would never give up that kind of control

id say chances of slim to none we get any real update (let alone froyo) that way

I Totally agree...

JFTR, I installed it and it just sits there saying "Please connect your Mobile Phone" So it doesn't work...

I doubt in the end kies will play any part of anything on our fascinate.

this has been posted and discussed at some lenght :)

i think the general consensus (although who knows) is that it will be a 2nd 2.1 update....dl09 or a version similar to that (previously dj05)

its highly unlikely that this is froyo as verizon is not very good at sneaking in major updates like that without many people finding out about it
 
Didn't see it anywhere, my bad. I guess we could only hope that it
may be Froyo, but I don't hold out much hope.
 
They can call this update "YouEatPoop" for all I care as long as it fixes any of my few annoyances of the device (GPS, lag, bottom buttons, etc)

JUST FIX SOMETHING SAMSUNG

a small minority of fascinate owners got lucky and seem to have functional gps on dio1...i cant give you a percentage but it seems to be pretty low....most cant get locks in under 5 minutes until they move to dj05
