Dr Dre's Beat and Lady GaGa's Heartbeat Headphones...

...no...

4chan got a bunch of their members to make fake reviews. Trust me, they are AWFLUL for the price. They pretty much just took some low-grade headphones, slapped some names on 'em and jacked up the price.

If you're looking for some good entry level headphones, I'd go with the Senn HD 25-1 II's myself. You'll never listen to music the same way again :D

Christ, no. In every single imaginable way, no.

For maybe $50 I'd buy them because they aren't HORRIBLE (if you don't mind the look), but for $300 there are 20 or more options that sound sosososo much better.

When you say there's nothing else out there like them, what exactly are you referring to? From a style standpoint, there's definitely options within that price range, from an SQ standpoint there most definitely are as well. If you seriously want to drop $300 on some cans I can point you in a couple of better directions depending on what type of music you normally listen to.

I'm an audio engineer, and I have to say those, and those popular skull candy headphones that are popular right now, are absolute garbage. You are paying for the logo, and to advertise them for free while you wear them.

If you want some decent headphones/in ears, look for Sennheiser's. Most of their stuff is very good. I would recommend spending maybe 60-100 bucks if you want a good balance between price and quality sound.

Meh, I've got a couple of pairs of Skullcandy ear buds I've picked up on clearance for $8-10 and I'd say they're worth that. I use them for mowing the lawn and working out so I don't jack up my good ear buds.

All of the Sennheiser's in the $60-100 range will be excellent buys (with noticeable improvements in sound quality as you move up that price scale). If you don't need sealed phones Grado makes great cans in that price range as well.

Grado is another brand I really like, and my $100 Alessandro Music MS-1s are probably my favorite cans in that price range

No way, these headphones are just expensive and just one of those things which are hyped up (like the blackberry) but we all know they wont last long and then you will realise you have wasted your money.
if you are looking for headphones i suggest bose or senn.

No, they aren't worth it. But your average person will think they are amazing because they are better than iPod earbuds, which isn't saying a whole lot.

I have a pair of the beats and they are not as bad as many are claiming.I bought a pair of HTC headphones just to talk when driving and they are garbage, conversation was always coming in and out. The beats come in clear and solid when talking and listening to my music. Yes they are priced high but for me it's worth it because i'm happy.

The guys recommending Sennheisers know what they are talking about. The Dr. Dres and the others are just hyped logoed stuff. Get a pair of the Sennheisers and you'll never go back.

I see a lot of bashing going on, but not a lot of hard information. I've demoed both these, and must say the pack a lot of punch in terms of bass. That's the whole reason people buy these specific headphones, they want a lot of bass strictly for rap and hip hop music. As the others have said, Sennheisers will give you a much better audio experience all around, and even better bass as well in terms of crisp and clean bass...but that's not what hip hop and rap is about. That style of music is about low, muddy, eardrum rattling bass. If that's what you want, then spend whatever you are willing to spend to get a pair that YOU feel is worth it. You'd hate to take everybody's word for it, buy a pair online, only to realize upon arrival that they're not exactly how you want them to be. Find a retail store that has them on demo and take a listen for yourself (I know Fry's has them on demo, possibly Best Buy).

Haven't tried beats (IN EARS... I think the over the ears sound great personally and would disagree that much lower cost over the ears sound just as good or better, and no I don't own any flavor of beats), but I have tried a handfull of sennheiser's and they were all disappointing. If you wear them with the cord in the coat you can hear the rubbing of the cord against your clothing/body on every in-ear pair I have tried. I have tried others with a braided cloth cord (not sure of the bran, may have been shure) and it didn't have that issue. If you plan to wear them like that, I would consider this. I am pretty sure the beats are braided. FWIW the retailer cost is about 50% (or less) of what the manufacturer sells them for. There is a gigantic markup on these products.
