When will Sprint offer Motorola Android devices?

I think Samsung is wasting our time with devices like Intercept, Transform. You should checkout the following from Motorola:

Atrix 4G:
- Dual core Tegra 2 @1Ghz
- 4.0″ qHD display
- 1GB RAM
- 1930mAh battery
- Biometric security
- brilliant docking systems

Droid Bionic 4G: (2nd qtr)
- Dual core Tegra 2 @1Ghz
- 4.3″ qHD display
- 512MB RAM

Xoom tablet:
- Android 3.0, HoneyComb

If Sprint doesn't announce anything within the next month that's worth a darn...they'll be losing 8 lines in June of 2011....

If the Evo Shift is all they have for CES, they're screwed!!!

The HPalm devices will NOT save them...

I would expect to see a phone or two like these on Sprint in the Summer. At least if history repeats itself, thats when Sprint releases their "big" phones.

I agree, with the amount of data I used last month alone, my bill on VZW would have been about 160 (plus tax/fees) for a single line. On Sprint, $67 (out the door). :) You can see why I'm happy here with Sprint.

I'm also a super heavy data user. Did over 6gb using my samsung moment last year in march. (no tethering)

I'm a man of simple wants. For me, it's a CDMA version of the BlackBerry Torch. But to tell the truth, I'm pretty happy with Sprint's current phone lineup. I'm loving my Evo, but missing my BlackBerry 9650. It's close by and ready to be activated, but the Evo's screen has seduced me.

You know what would REALLY float my boat? That new SonyEricsson Xperia Arc with the BlackBerry OS loaded onto it. That's a wet dream for me.

Jumping carriers for a device is just plain stupid

Jumping carriers for a device is just plain stupid

I'm just not going to waste another year behind the curve on android phones. It's not just a device, the entire line up on VZW, and now even AT&T is soon to be better. AT&T! For shame, sprint. For shame.

So everyone that came to Sprint b/c it had the Evo and Epic are "just plain stupid", too?

Cool. Got it. Thanks for your help.

pretty much. How many iphone users loathe att? Oh right....

Every one who's had sprint for a decent amount of time know they announce their phones in the summer.just like they did with the evo, the instinct, touch pro, the......(insert all flagship devices here)

So yeah carrier jumping for a device is just plain stupid.

And howis sprintexactly behindthe curve anyways? These phones aren't even out yet, and the current line up goes hand for hand with what everyone else has

Agreed. The smart thing to do is choose a carrier that has good coverage where you are, and has the best plans. Sprint clearly has the best plans

lol. The EVO, Epic and EVO shift are far from behind the curve.

It's one of the cardinal sins. Coverage in your area is always #1.

I made this exact rookie mistake when I came to Sprint though. I wanted the Palm Pre, even though I was relatively happy with BlackBerrys and AT&T. But I ported over to Sprint and walked out of the local Sprint store with a shiny new Pre on day 1 of availability. Although the Pre lasted just long enough for my mail-in rebate check to arrive, Sprint turned out to be WAY better in terms of data speeds and overall network coverage for me. Ditched the Palm Pre, kept Sprint.

I've always said, "It's better to be lucky than smart." Good thing for me, huh? :)

Obviously more than one factor has to be taken into account. But all four major carriers have, at least, good coverage where I live. Sprint's is far from the best, but it's usually acceptable. Around here, it's a trade-off. Verizon has better coverage, but costs more, so pick your poison.

If each carrier has one point in their favor, verizon on better coverage and sprint on better pricing, it's not unreasonable to use the hardware as the tie-breaker.

AT&T is out. And, I don't know about T-mo. I'm going to have to look into their coverage in the area. I can't think of anyone that I know with the service around here. I do know that they claim to already have their "4g" network up and running in my city.

They're all pretty good phones. I could certainly live with the EVO. However, I'm done with Samsung after the fiasco that was the Moment, and now their tardiness in upgrading to 2.2. Plus, I've still seen issues with their GPS receiver, and I use that quite a bit. And the smallish screen on the shift (not to mention, lack of anything really new or innovative on it) makes me less than enthusiastic about it.

The only issue I have with the EVO is, again, it's six months old. The shelf life on phones these days is remarkably short and I'm a little skittish about paying for something like that. The processor is already a generation behind. Plus, who knows how long they'll support it. Are they going to come out with another beast of a phone in June and completely stop updating the software on the EVO?

When I bought my moment, it was one of the two best android phones that sprint offered. However, it was already 3-1/2 months old and very quickly left behind by better phones. Support stopped entirely 6 months into my ownership. Granted, the EVO is way better, even for its time, than the moment ever was, and there's no way my experience would be as miserable with it. That being said, there seems to be better options out there. Heck, the mytouch 4g on T-mo is less than half the price of the evo, and as I understand it, already a slightly superior phone.

I agree. Coverage, plan pricing & device are equally important to me. BUT...what good does good coverage & decent pricing do you if you don't have a phone that works worth a crap? I get so frustrated with my Hero, just trying to make a call. By the time it actually connects the call there have been many times I could have driven from point A to point B & been there faster. I'm not kidding!! Or when I try to do something on the internet phone resets itself & I have to wait for it to go through the Sprint/HTC cycle before I can do anything at all. I was eligible for an upgrade in October but there is nothing that fits my needs for a phone....still. I considered the Optimus S but it's a step down from what I've already got. If I'm going to commit to another 2 years & shell out the money for a new phone I want it to be something I'm going to be happy with, at least for the next year.
So, @IOWA while I partially agree that switching carriers for a phone is stupid it's also a legitimate reason to switch. :)

No, it was cheaper for people to come to Sprint to begin with, with the side benefit of getting an Evo or Epic.

What's wrong with the Evo or Epic? And what carrier will you be switching to? What is the cost differential?

To jump just for a "line up" of devices is dumb. It's not like you're buying the entire line up. You get one phone to use, not the entire line.

+1

The phone cost is a drop in the bucket compared to service costs. No wonder most people are broke and can't figure out why they're broke.

As has been pointed out several times now, nobody is ignoring coverage. However, the device we use to access that coverage matters. As it stands right now, sprint has several good devices, but no really good devices. Some of us were hoping for the announcement of a really good device. We've been disappointed.

No really good device?? You're talking to someone who has BOTH the Evo and Epic. Those are awesome devices.

I don't know what planet you're living on.

The Evo was introduced in July last year. I suspect Sprint will do the same this year with a successor. I bought my Moment November 2009, and no new Android phone was introduced until Summer of 2010.

Just because nothing is announced at CES (other than Evo Shift) does not concern me at all. This is normal for Sprint to wait til CTIA.

The evo is a good device, and if I were getting one right now that's what I'd choose, but it's six months old. In phone time, that's like 50 years. The processor is already outdated. It would certainly not be tortuous, like using the Moment is, but there are better options already out there, and far better options just on the horizon on other carriers. I don't want to have to use my upgrade and spend another $200 on a six month old phone.

The Epic? Are we talking about the same epic that's still on android 2.1? The hardware is still very good (except for the GPS antenna), but the software and the support from Samsung really bring it down. Samsung is going to have to spend a long time rebuilding their reputation before I ever consider buying another one of their phones.

On Sprint you can upgrade every 12 months. I don't think that's true on the other carriers. Sprint will likely be introducing new phones at CTIA, which is March of this year.

Now that said, what killer device would you be moving to, on another carrier? How exactly is it better?

And what plan will you be moving to? How much is the price differential, per month? Per year? Per 2 year contract? Any other limitations like data caps? Off peak calling times not at 7pm? Extra charges for MMS, or GPS services?

Let's see the entire analysis.

This crying wolf of other carriers providing better phones is getting tiresome. Let's look at the entire picture. Please provide some analysis to back up the whining and crying.

Goodbye. Enjoy wasting thousands of dollars elsewhere.

Seeing these "crying wolf" posts are kind of amusing...
