Droid 2 Global in use

Spain and Germany. Np problems. In fact I purchase prepaid SIM's and put them in for when I need local calling. When I need Data and US calls I put in the Verizon SIM.

you had to pay for the global data plan usage though right? It wasn't part of your regular plan was it?

Thanks,

Trophynuts: I just came back from China using my D2G. I had global roaming activated for the phone and data. I didn't try using a local sim card. The phone worked fine and the data worked well and in some cases better the hotel's Wi-Fi. I've posted more details in the forum.

I am using mine in New Zealand on the Telecom XT network and it is mostly OK. it is not as reliable as my previous droid as it does seem to have worse reception in the same areas and falls off the network occasionally, but overall it does work ok, just not great. I haven't tried it on the Vodafone network yet, but might give that a go soon and see how it goes.
UPDATE
Even works better on Vodafone here in NZ

Hey Brendon,

I seem to be having major problems with Vodafone on my Droid 2 Global...I was thinking about switching to XT but now that I've read your post looks like I'm screwed either way. Are you in a big city?

Cheers,
Ben

all,
Thanks for the feedback. I'm thinking of getting a D2G...as it stands now i have to swap from using my DX back to my Bold 9650..It works great in other countries but i hate having to swap and all that. Usually when i roam internationally i use the phone for data only. Voice is too expensive and its pointless to use the sim card of another carrier. For my voice needs a local calling card in combo with skype on my netbook have been the best solution.

Using my D2G on BASE GSM in Belgium. Have also used it on Rogers in Canada and Vodafone in UK. No problems. Better reception than my old iPhone 2G.

I've been using my Droid 2 Global as my regular everyday phone on Rogers Wireless in Toronto, Canada for the last couple of months and it works as expected just like any other regular 3G/HSPA smartphone. Voice and data all functioning correctly. This is with a Rogers SIM card and service, not a Verizon package.

I too have been using the D2G in Toronto, Canada with Rogers.... and I have terrible signal quality. Phone has the latest Verizon update and everything.... Sometimes I'll have a great signal, and then it can drop to nothing in the same spot.

Cenozoite, would you mind telling me your exact setup (ie. Network Mode, GSM Only/UMTS Only/Automatic, and access point names)? Thanks!

Sure no problem, I have it set to Automatic network selection, GSM/UMTS only, and access point name internet.com. Nothing else odd or fancy. Keep in mind though, the D2G is notorious for *showing* far lower signal strength when in GSM mode than it actually has. I too was concerned about this at first until I googled it and found many users reporting this, but also all confirming that actual signal/reception quality is always excellent despite the indicator saying otherwise. Users have even done tests with software that shows the accurate db antenna reading (or something) and it was always high. So, don't sweat the apparent one-bar of reception, because in reality you pretty much always have 4-5. Just ignore the bogus strength indicator!

I got my D2G in anticipation of moving to Kuwait in a few months. Can't wait to try it. As for calling back to the states, or anywhere internationally, you could use Skype or Google voice (with voice credit). It is pretty cheap. I use it to call Kuwait now from the States on my D2G.
