Help Will the unlocked HTC Desire HD work in India?

the response I got from HTC on this issue

I had also sent a mail to Docomo but no response & customer care says it should be problem with phone not Docomo :(

My room mate recently bought a DHD & yesterday night I put my Docomo SIM to check.
To my surprise it was working properly , was able to make calls. I did not test the GPRS / 3G connectivity.
I request DHD owners who have Docomo SIM to try again

Docomo has started working on DHD both 2G and 3G (GPRS also is working fine) from last week.

Sorry not PostPaid I asked for PrePaid.... on my Previous Post.

Hi....Guys

Just wanted to confirm with all of you people who are using the HTC Desire HD is any body facing any problems with the TATA DOCOMO Sim Card, does it work with the DesireHD, any of you who are using can you please tell me how is it working......?
If working is the 3G and 2G EDGE Mobile Internet Services working fine without any problems...

I would also like suggestions as to which mobile operator it the best to choose from in regard to the Mobile Internet Packages they provide in PrePaid Tariffs.... for 2G EDGE & 3G.

Thanks......
Waiting for the response......

This was awesome, but i dont think google can make a better touch dan apple.

google is only gonna make the android os better and at par with apple experience, its upto the hardware makers like samsung HTC etc to make a tablet at par with apple ipad

HTC is capable of making it...iOS certainly is more fluid and better experience but is not open and lots of android features like widgets customizations etc are lacking in it too

honeycomb android 3.0 is certainly looking more promising with tablet :)

iOS do lacks in advanced features, but its better than others in basic features like touch response, facetime, apps handling etc
The touch response may be hardware based but touch gestures is definately what os can improve.

hi Guys,

Any one who bought a official indian desire z with bill and warranty in india, can you pls tell me what is the firmware version of the phone pls ?

How can I be sure that my DHD has Google Maps Installed ? And am bit confused with so many "maps-based-stuff" around . There are 4 apps installed - "Locations", "Navigation", "Places", "Maps". Why all of this is not in one apps. Grrr ..

1. "Locations" - When I open this (with wi-fi, GPS, GPRS - All Off), DHD shows my accurate location (around + 50 meters) on the map (provided by preinstalled Route66 maps) with the help of mobile towers. I can't browse directions (I asked it to show me directions from Bangalore to Delhi) as it asks me to connect to the internet. If the maps are preinstalled, it shouldn't ask me for internet etc. It also confuses me that whether I am using the 1 month free trial or not ?

Good thing is - When I turn on GPS, it shows me my accurate location to 10 meters. :)

2. "Maps"- These are Google Maps. When I open this (with wi-fi, GPS, GPRS - All Off), DHD shows my accurate location on the Google map (provided by preinstalled Route66 maps) with the help of mobile towers. But when I try to look at the other end of the city, map is empty and it doesn't gives you a feel that it will show up what you were searching for . However, after a while, say 1 or 2 minutes, the maps comes. Is this normal ? Does this means, that because of my zooming-in-and-out, moving here and there on map, makes DHD & Google Maps to think what I am looking for ? (And that too takes 2 plus minutes :o) ? Am not even sure, if Google Maps for India is loaded on my DHD. :o

3. "Places" (Google red colored PIN icon) - When I open this, it instantly asks me to get the internet connection. Upon denying and asking for to search the restaurants, it keeps searching for on and on ... Upon connecting it to the internet, it works like a charm. :) This suggests me that this is exactly like online Google Maps & I have to have internet connection for this app to work. I thought, the Google maps are preinstalled & hence why should I connect it to the internet !! Still confused. :o

4. "Navigation" - Just opening this thing (with internet OFF) asks me to turn on GPS. Upon turning GPS ON, it complains me that "Google navigation is not yet available in this location". Upon asking it for driving directions to Delhi, it keeps searching on and on.

PS - :o And am embarassed to ask all this. :o I even do not know if I am at any unknown location around Bangalore, whether my DHD will be able to help me. :o Do not mistake me, I love my DHD.

to make it simple:

google maps is the "Maps" which should be already installed, open market, search google maps, it will show you maps with update available , update it to version 5, which has some cool new features (search maps 5 android videos on youtube)

locations - this is the offline maps which HTC has given specially for desire hd and desire z.

places and navigations are part of google maps only, new version of google maps 5 have places integrated within

locations is offline maps so does not need any internet connection...google maps on the other maps needs wifi/mobile network to browse through

Will try installing Maps 5.0 but I would certainly hope that once India maps are installed I should not requrie an internet connection in case I need directions in an offline mode. I just now updated it to 5.0, will report if I am unsuccessful in what I am trying to do.

Google maps 5 are quite good, but still i would recemond to use locations provided in ur dhd, they are too good ( far better than i expected). Google maps do use cache but they are not as good as offline maps, if u dont want to use ur mobile internet. I hv also tried map my india maps, but no comparison to locations.

So, the locations you are talking about, are these the Route66 maps that came with the Indian DHD and a free one month subscription. If so, do you know where other users (the ones that got it from Expansys) can buy/ download them from.

I think u can download the INDIAN maps, n probably u'll need to buy navigation plan fr india, it costs 370 for a month, around 1200 year, and 1900 for life cycle.

locations should be quite detailed in cities like delhi...and I find it quite detailed for pune also...good we got it for free, maymy india maycost 1K around
