Root unsure about rom selection

I've been looking at my friends droid, and I noticed all the apps he had. I read about how you can install apps to your sd card with app2sd.. I got a new 16 gb sd card but I've been readfing that in order to get app2sd working you need to install a custom rom. I haven't heard about any specific lg axis roms but I was thinking that I would have to use a ally rom because of yhe similarities. Any help? And thanks in advance
 
I wouldn't bet an Ally ROM would work on an Axis... Some more experienced people can jump in and clarify on this one, however.
 
Yea I had a feeling about that... but the axis is a second hand phone... not many people know of it and no forums on it being rooted either...

Well, from what I've found on my quick, cursory search, the Axis is the same as the Ally, short of being branded by another carrier, and the faceplate is different. However, those are the only differences.

You could be adventurous, and try it. You'd be "on your own", so to speak, in new waters. I'd hop onto the Ally IRC channel, and ask over there. There's a couple of ROM devs that hang out over there, and they might have used a second-hand Axis as a dev box.

From what i understand,you cannot use an Ally rom with the Axis. I could be wrong but im pretty sure it wont work. Try the IRC chat room for Ally.
 
You can NOT, and I repeat can NOT use an Ally ROM with the Axis. You will brick your phone trying to do so. If the Axis has a custom recovery then you could do a back up and install App2sd generic, but I recommend this ONLY if that phone has a custom recovery thats able to be installed, and is functional!

Okay... I have no clue what is or how to get a custom recovery thing... but would it be possible to just make a rom for like 2 features? I'm trying to get app2sd and I just found out about the infastature mode on wireless tether for root users and every time I try to use it it says no netfilter. I think The meaning of it is I need a new kernal which ties into roms I think.

For root, z4root works on the Axis: [APP] z4root - xda-developers (Be sure to donate!)

For custom recovery, ClockWorkMod 2.5.0.5 (ROM Manager) and RA_GNM 1.2.5 do NOT work (unless I'm missing something.) /*n00b alert*/ Until I find a compatible custom recovery, is there any way to restore the stock recovery image?

For wifi hotspot, barnacle works without a custom kernel. (After you verify it works, upgrade to donate version for widget.)

If you found a working recovery and flashed a ROM that left your radio intact, could you just flash back to your stock ROM if it didn't work, without fear of bricking (assuming you backed it up)?
