Help Exchange Sync won't work on 3G

Hi everyone,

I'm new here, and I am not a techie. I have just bought my first Android phone, a HTC Desire from Telstra in Australia.

I've got what seems to be a peculiar problem, because I can't find any posts with the same problem. I think I am just doing something wrong.

I have successfully connected to our MS Exchange (SBS 2003) server through the office wi-fi network, but I cannot get the phone to sync with Exchange via 3G.

I have obviously correctly entered the server details for within our network, but when I try and sync from outside, it does not work.

For the email address I have entered my external email address.

For the server address I have entered the internal IP address of our server.

For the domain I have entered the server domain name (not our web domain on which the external email address is based).

For username and password I have entered my network login username and password, that I use to log onto my desktop.

Have I done something wrong? Instead of the server's internal IP address should I have entered our static IP address?

Someone suggested I should be syncing via VPN, but this does not work either. I connected via VPN, but the phone does not sync via VPN. (And, the VPN stops me browsing when it is connected, which is a pain).

I bought the Desire because I was told that it had a push email facility, not dissimilar to my previous Blackberry. So how do I get it to work?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar problem, couldn't get it working with 2003. I installed "touchdown" which worked a treat, so unfortunately ended up paying for a solution. You can get a 30 day trial, see if that works?

Anyone found a fix for this. I have the same problem on a Motorola Atrix... interestly I'm also on Telstra... Had a Desire on Optus before this and worked fine.
