Sprints announcement thread...

^^^ that has a good possibility...

edit: we are unlimited.. so.. would that be useless?

We have unlimited plans but there are other plans as well...I'm on a family plan with 1500 minutes. There's also plans just for text messaging.

This would be more for marketing than anything else. "Sprint, the only carrier where all your calls and texts are free at no charge" etc and it would be an industry first....but going this route would introduce tiered data plans.

Also something would have to be done with Sprint's dumbphones that aren't data intensive...maybe prepaid plans for minutes and texts or something like that.

androidandme speculation continues....
I know others have said it too, but I believe Sprint will announce the world's first 4G phone with a 3D display and 3D camera on Feb. 7th.

I hope this is not the big announcement, though. I'd much rather see a great phone without all of these extra toys on it. Don't get me wrong, it's a cool idea. But how much would the average person really use that?

everyday.... android homescreens and menus.. in 3D..
imagine live wallpaper in 3D...
Fire... fireworks... fishes swimming....wow!

games in 3D....

movies and shows in 3D....

This all sounds very cool but at the same time I have visions of my phone attached to a charger half the day because of these battery draining features. I don't know for fact that it would drain the battery but look at some of the other cool features they've put on phones like live wallpapers. It sucks the life out of your battery. That's not much fun! :(

only when the screen is on.... :P
it may not drain any more than live wallpapers would... or playing any game would.

it is a screen.. with light...on.
i guess it would use more GPU power than normal mode.

I don't think it's a device, it's going to be some sore of feature. If it was a device the manufacture would have the bragging rights, not Sprint.

Very good point! But do you think there's a possibility the device itself has already been announced by the manufacturer, such as the new LG announced at CES? Sprint could be announcing they will be carrying the first device of that type.
But I do see your point too, about being some sort of feature. As other posters said, the last big announcement like this was Sprint ID & I don't recall them making this much fuss before-hand. (Very possible they did make this much fuss & I just wasn't paying attention.)

I feel like a kid trying to guess what my presents are under the Christmas tree! lol :p

^^ that would not be so... attractive... tier data like the others.

If they jack up the prices I agree. Hopefully they would keep the same price point of the current Everything Data $69.99 plan or close to it, then price down the tier from there.

3D capable dual core (1ghz) HTC Android device (codename: HTC Sabor), they're releasing it just before the iPhone and held back on CES on a hunch that Apple would ruin CES yet again with a V iPhone. Being in 3rd place they desperately need a come back this is it.

I put my money where my mouth is, who wants in? Come on illusionist and saying yet another first? That's a dead giveaway.

Maybe the're are eliminating the $10 4g fee

The industry first...Doing something to benefit the customer? Idts

Iphone and Ipad2 with Wimax, Both in White.

Unlikely...Apple didn't want to do LTE because it wasn't proven yet. They don't like new tech. Not to mention it would ruin the battery life.

I am putting my money away hoping you are right. Makes the most sense tbh. If you are to believe the little advertisement.

Then again itll prob be the size of a brick and have a stupid keyboard. But I am praying that it exists and its everything I want in a phone.(Including without a $10 fee)But if the phone is good enough I'll pay it. But I won't be happy about it! :)

I think it's too early for an EVO 2. That should be available in the summer when "ice cream (sandwich?)" is due. I would guess it will be a new Unlimited Everything Plan for $69.99 (79.99 for 4G phones?)

Number one I rly hope they don't call it an Evo 2. But they also are not saying anything is being released...its just an announcement.

Now Sprint normally would of announced their Summer phone at CTIA in March, but since the Iphone on Verizon will hit early Feb and the return date for phones is now 14 days. I can see Sprint strategically changing that and possibly moving up an announcement.

That wouldn't aww anyone and saving a few dollars certainly wouldn't change anyone's mind if they were thinking about getting an iPhone it's device related you can bank on that. What are they gonna save firrst to save you 30 bucks on an unlimited plan, that sounds silly Apple and Verizon would die of laughter all the way to the bank. It's the first 1) 3D phone and 2) Dual Core phone (to be released not announced).

Key phrase "will show you that the impossible is possible".
I take back what I said I think it's going to be a slim 4g phone that has a 6-8 hour battery life with 4g on all the time.

It's the only real issue people have with these super phones they have crappy battery life.

What is the evo. It can make it 8 hours with 4g on and is super slim. Heck just using 4g and a smart task killer, I have been getting about 20 hours, and I hammer my phone. I hope they will allow you to root you phones starting with gingerbread, and send you to the manufacturer for repairs. That would be an industry first.

Anywho....like I said 6-8 hours of battery life with 4g on. If battery life wasn

Last time they did something like this was when they announced the "free to any cell phone" add-on to the plan. That was also an industry first. My guess is that it will be related to the plans that no other carrier do now. Something like eliminating tiered minutes and just give you all you can eat minutes in your plan and just charge for data and text or something like that. Anyone agree???

How would they have no minutes charge? What about the people who still use phones as phones - they getting service without ever paying except for the phone?

I agree that it's probably going to be some plan thing. There's an international group looking for international Wimax partners (no roaming or international rates), but I don't think it's far enough along for participation and announcement. I also don't know if there's enough compatibility on Sprint's end for it to work. I wouldn't care anyway - since few people have relied on Sprint for international calling/data, it wouldn't matter enough to make a big announcement difference.

Industry first, free calls and data on any February 29.

Here's my guess- Sprint is going to say that the have now figured out:

1) How to turn up the bandwidth WIMAX can handle to be much faster than with LTE and that they are immediately turning up the speed for existing WIMAX devices. What had previously been thought to be impossible is now possible!

2) They are immediately doing software upgrades to the network to allow WIMAX towers to also do LTE and do it first for phones before Verizon or anyone else. They will also continue to do WIMAX. They have already said they could easily convert WIMAX to LTE.

Due to David blain being there and the impossible is nothing slogan. I'm inclined to believe it will be some kind of 3d phone screen and like someone above said, 3d camera. I heard a commenter saying his new device will have 3 cameras, not 2. (Industry firsts)

Basically, what ever it is, it will be something we have not sen yet

I guess we will just have to obsess over it until the 7th. There are so many new Android choices coming out in the next several months that it makes it very hard for early adopters to decide which one to go with for the next short lasting new gadget fix. I need my fix and soon...
