Samsung Kies Mini Update - 1.0.0.11011_4

My install of Kies Mini auto-updated to a new version last night. I didn't notice anything new or different, but I'm hoping this update is to make the Froyo update easier for users.

Start your own speculation below.

I went from a custom rom back to jh6 last night. I wanted to get the jh7 update through kies. Opened kies and it downloaded the update. When I plugged my phone in, it recognized it but said the phone was unregistered. Make a long story short, I found the jh7 on xda, flashed it, then after a few hours, I went back to my custom rom.

I'm clueless on all this updating, but want to keep my phone up to date. Where can I get more info on this?

There has only been 1 small update for our phones. Most likely you already have it (not sure if phones these days are coming with it installed). If not you can get it OTA by hitting software update (I think that's what it's called I've been on a custom ROM for over a month now), it's at the bottom of the settings menu. If that doesn't work use kies mini!

Hey guys im new to the captivate game.

Can anyone explain what lies is used for? Does this need to be flashed before using a rom??

Samsung Kies is used for upgrading and transferring media/files from your computer to your phone. Remember how phones before came with a CD for their own little software? This is the same thing except you have to download it yourself. Kies Mini is used for US captivates where its only meant for updating firmware. For both Kies ad Kies mini, you dont need to flash your rom

After flashing so many roms, I flashed to stock and connected to kies mini and it says phone is not registered. Probably because I never saved the nv_data.

my guess is that samsung is trying to once again give us some hope in getting 2.2 for the i897...

If you made a nandroid backup of your stock ROM waaaay back before you ever installed a custom ROM than you should have your original nv_data. I really wish devs would have made the importance of backing up nv_data known...or even mentioned the existence of nv_data lol.

for real i didn't know anything about that until after i flashed Cog 3.02 after reading all the tutorials and then saw this thread. Does titanium back it up?

I never did a nandroid backup, only tibu and I copied the sd before I did anything. I found a zip file on xda that supposedly restores the nv_data, but I wont worry unless I go back to stock or if the official 2.2 is ever released.
