ok.. seriously thinking of ditching the BB for the G2

I have been seriously debating ditching my BB bold 9700 and going android. I'm on TMO and really want a android with a qwerty keyboard. I was going to hold out to see if TMO released a new qwerty android because I'm not crazy about how the G2 looks and not crazy about the hinge everyone is talking about.. NOW however.. I can get the G2 for free and it's looking mighty tempting.. I'm just so afraid I will switch from BB to Android and regret it. Can some other BB/Android convertees give me some thoughts? I have been a loyal loyal BB user for years now I'm just afraid I will give it up and then regret it :( Should I jump on the G2 or should I hold on to my BB a little longer and wait to see if TMO releases a new handset that is better than the g2 and has a qwerty keyboard?

Android is the best platform IMO. And the G2 is a great phone.

I have had mine for about a month and the hinge feels a lot better than my old phone (mytouch slide).

I ordered a mytouch slide for my 12 year old daughter it's getting delivered today and I will make sure I play with it a bunch to get a feel for Android. Does anyone know if TMO plans on releasing a phone in the near future with a qwerty? I wonder if they will make a mytouch 4G slide

You should send it back and order her a G2 and install LauncherPro on it.

Better screen, better processor, better keyboard, 4G, better build quality, better support, froyo and its cheaper.

She doesnt need the g2 really and I got her a good deal on the slide. It just came and I've been playing with it for a few minutes and I think I'm going to dive in and get the G2.. If I hate it TMO has that 14 day buyers remorse so I will be able to go right back to my berry if I really dont like the g2

So I did it! I upgraded. TMO has a promotion for the G2 for free for new customers and they wanted to charge me 300 for the upgrade.. I bitched, threatened to close my account and he put me on hold and told me they would give it to me for free! and since I'm coming from a granfathered 19.99 blackberry plan I'm paying 19.99 for unlimited data :) I hope I made the right choice in giving up my BB. They said my G2 will be here by friday. Ok.. So what can I do to it? hahaha I read about rooting.. would you recommend it? I'm pretty tech savy as I work in IT and have been a PC programmer so what else can I do to mod the phone to get the best results?

Seeing as how its your first android phone you may want to get a custom UI since the G2 is stock android. I use launcherPro (full version) as to me it seems the most stable and comes with nice facebook and twitter widgets much like what you find on the Mytouch Slide. Rooting is pretty easy on the G2.......... unlike the slide.

ok, thanks man! There wont be a need to root the 3g slide because it's for my kid and she doesnt really need any mods. hehe Mine I will root though. Are there major benefits to rooting the G2 as opposed to not having root access? Excuse the noob questions but I am a noob to android but not technology as a whole. I read up a little about rooting and there seems to be a bunch of ways. which is the easist method? I was reading that you have to download roms but there are so many I dont know which would be the best.. is it better to temp root it or perm root? I just dont want to brick my phone.. considering this is my first android experience and will be my first rooting experience

also one last question.. With my BB was able to Tether via bluetooth on my laptop for free. This is not possible with the G2 without buying an app like pdanet?
