Now that we have 2.2.1...wheres our Gingerbread?

honestly gingerbread is more of a theme than anything.theres no performance
gains by it so i personaly dont care
 
I don't understand why there can't be more transparency on the issue. Somebody came out and said it would be ready "in the coming weeks" then went back inside and nobody has heard boo since and that was MONTHS ago??

Delayed gratification is not common much any more these days and customer service is more important than ever. Having invested hundreds of dollars in hardware I don't see it as entitlement to ask a provider to provide what you pay them for. Not to mention expecting that they keep their word when they tell you what you can expect.

So Gingerbread isn't as big of an upgrade... so what! Over promising and under delivering is a horrible business practice and I expect more from a company as big as Google.
 
Yeah all that and the fact that 2.3 is already been released by google. Its running on the nexus s right now. Its up to motorola and verizon to push it to the X.

I have a Nexus One on T- Mobile so I'm really stumped! Whole reason I got the darn thing was to be the first with all the new updates...
 
First, Gingerbread does bring performance tweaks. Watch the video that Google put out saying what is new.

Second, we have to wait until Moto releases it, because "Developers getting their hands on it" will not help us any due to the locked bootloader.

Third, no, Honeycomb will not be out for anything but tablets.

Finally, Ice cream SANDWICH will be out sometime, probably April? So we might as well wait for... Taco. :)

I kind of disagree with this. I see us getting Gingerbread on the pretense, by Moto, that it's the second coming of Christ and it will fix all of our issues... Unfortunately, it won't and after that release, we'll have to move onto ROMs... Just my opinion.

I feel the same way - I think we [who have the Droid X] will see Gingerbread eventually. There were so many DX's sold & its been a very popular phone on Verizon's lineup...it wouldn't make sense to alienate all these customers by not supporting a phone after only a few months when so many bought it on a 2-year contract. This isn't Samsung -- thank God. I think we may even see Honeycomb (albeit a handset version). The original Droid has been updated to Froyo 2.2.1 and it is definitely an obsolete phone...I think the Droid X isn't in danger of being forgotten by Moto/Verizon anytime soon.
 
But, you forget. The original Droid was vanilla android. The X is not. Look at all the Blur loaded phones motorola came out with, when the original droid came out. How well did they fair on getting updates?:(
 
i have a feeling we will see an OTA of gingerbread (i really hope so for the performance increase and the screen dithering fix....that drives me NUTS) simply because it is STILL selling. i have a buddy that works at a verizon store, and he says the X is still the best selling phone, and it really hasn't slowed down at all. truth is, they are still selling, and just because it will be 'obsolete" in a few months, doesn't mean moto will not work on a gingerbread update.

as for custom ROMs, that wont happen unless someone can crack the bootloader. we need moto to release a gingerbread kernel to even begin to think about a GB ROM.

either way, it will be here in April...mark my words :)

and i also think the DX will still sell good once the newer gen phones are out...not everyone is going to want to pay extra for LTE, and the DX will still be the best 3G phone out there.

Blur might delay the GB OTA for the Droid X over a Vanilla Android OS, but I'm willing to wait. I'm sure we'll see it, perhaps sooner than April...:D

I'd say the X fared pretty well, lol. I received my X on Sept. 14th with stock Eclair loaded. A week later I OTA'd to Froyo and saw a general performance increase. A couple months later came the 2.2.1 update that fixed the battery mgr F/C issue, my only remaining bother with the phone. Overall my experience has been one of satisfaction with these updates and if Moto needs extra time to make sure they work, I'm OK with that.

If your issue is that Blur phones don't get updates, please reread the above paragraph. If your issue is that they don't get updates as fast as vanilla-Android phones, that's par for the course (although you may want to check out the issue Nexus 1 owners are having with the delays regarding Google's GB OTA). Might this same delay affect us Droid X users? - perhaps, but again I'm willing to be patient. There's a big difference between an update being delayed and not getting the update at all. ---Be glad we don't have Samsung phones :eek:
 
Better to have a working Froyo than a broken Gingerbread. In other words, lets hope whatever upgrade eventually graces the X isn't a rush job. A lot of people had major problems on the X after it was updated to Froyo. I'd hate to see a repeat of that scenario.

I pretty much agree with the above - I'd rather wait for a properly tested and verified OTA than a buggy rush job. I know there were a good deal of complaints after the original Froyo release, but in my case I didn't have any problems with that OTA (I guess I was one of the lucky ones). Time will tell as to what we get upgrade-wise, but I still have a gut feeling we will be seeing GB at some point in the next few months...
 
Yup. Candidly, as I've mentioned elsewhere, my DX is just rocking now. Rooting was the key, then modding, then overclocking, and now just happy as a clam. Can't even think of any system errors I've had now except for Google Maps occasionally freezing....and I've read reports about 5.0 problems all over the web. What does Gingerbread offer that we don't already have...or can't download?

First I've heard of Gingerbread fixing dithering. Did some Googling and it looks like it also makes better use of color! Motorola's Droid LCD screens support up to 24-bit color but 2.2 and below only support up to 16-bit, I think.

This makes me want Gingerbread on my X a lot more. :D
 
Hey guys, how do i update to 2.2.1? I believe all I have is 2.2 still. Nothing has changed or anything. I still have my original dialer and all that. And it just says 2.2 in my about phone. When i try to update wirelessly it just says no update is found.
