Root Modifying a ROM?

If I want to add/delete stuff from a rom, I would have to unzip, modify and then rezip right?
Or do I have to sign the zip or something?

On a slightly related note, I know the Sense widgets are Sense only, but what about the apps like the calculator? Are they Sense only too?

Most, probably all, Sense apps require the Sense environment to be present I'm afraid.

Use Winrar and just open the zip and delete. Don't extract. Then just close it.

If adding make sure you set compression to "store"

I extract it, delete what I want and rezip it using the default Windows 7 compression - works fine

My vote is for pkzip. Its very fast for on the fly zipping and removing
