Root unroot problems!!!

I unrooted my evo today and ever since my camera and camcorder do not work. I have tried too recover every way i can think of.. im in trouble.
 
Idk wat method you used but I would check out this thread http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-rooting-roms-hacks/19278-how-unroot-return-stock.html
Tried and true. Can't go wrong with that way
 
That's a pretty old unrooting method, and doesn't take into account that the phone may have been rooted with unrevoked-forever (since that root method is more prominent now).

2) I assume you used a PC36IMG.zip (or maybe a full RUU). Which one did you use?
3) What is your SW/hboot version?
4) What was your original root method? If it was unrevoked, did you flash the s-on tool, first?
5) Aside from the camera issues, did it fully unroot? (i.e. do you no longer have a custom recovery, and is your ROM now a clean slate?)

It is now stock. The only things that dont work is camcorder and camera. My hardware is 003. It says ship s off when i power + down volume. I used unrevoked3 when rooting. I tried using the pc36 zip but it didnt work

So what did you ultimately do to get it to stock if whatever PC36IMG you tried didn't work? What did it do, exactly, to make you say it didn't work?

If you have s-off, you're not fully unrooted. You were supposed to flash the s-on tool, first. What instructions did you follow?

What exactly is your hboot version as you see it in hboot (same place where you see s-off)?

We can figure out why the camera isn't working in a bit, but it'll be helpful to know the exact state of your phone, first.
 
I downloaded the img36 copied too the sd card turned off phone then recovey update it.

I dis not use the s on tool i dont know how

You tried flashing it from recovery (black screen with menus) or from hboot (white screen with menus; would have scanned for the file and prompted you to flash it)?

If you read the Rooting for Dummies guide (sticky in this section), it will explain how to unroot correctly.

At this point, do you still have a custom recovery? Turn the phone off, then turn it back on while pressing and holding the volume down button. Select the option for recovery. What do you see after it reboots?
 
I then downloaded a evo recovery file tried too push it through my terminal on linux from my computer.it was connected via usb. it said error device offline.
 
There are better ways of doing that. What exactly did you do? Did the PC36IMG flash from hboot or did you get errors? You have older radios, so there must have been a problem somewhere. Anyway, start by getting a custom recovery back. Follow the instructions here to get Clockwork 2.6.0.1:

Specifically, read section 5 under after rooting. It will explain how to flash the s-on tool, then flash the appropriate PC36IMG.zip for your hboot version.

Ok i downloaded clockwork and the 36 for my hboot and i downloaded s on tool now what? I already booted clockwork and grrr the 36img is 200 mbs omfg

Yes, it's a large file because it's the contents of an entire RUU. It will wipe the phone, bringing it back to stock. Did you read the instructions in the Rooting for Dummies guide? It explains what do at this point. Are you having trouble with a particular step?

EDIT: Also, which PC36IMG did you download? You should have downloaded the one for 3.70/hboot 2.10.
 
Ya i dled that one, what im having trouble understanding is after they are both downloaded i put them both in my sd and recover?
 
Put the s-on tool on the root of your sdcard (meaning the top level, not in any folders). You can do so by just connecting your phone to your computer via usb, and selecting the option to connect it as a disk drive.

Once that is done, turn the phone off, then turn it back one while pressing and holding the volume down button. That takes you to hboot. Hboot is basically just the bootloader. Later, you'll flash the pc36img from here. For now, you need to select the option to go to recovery. It will reboot into recovery, which should now be clockwork. It will be a black screen with menus. Select the option to install (flash) a zip from the sdcard. Select the s-on tool that you copied over earlier.

Once it is done flashing, reboot back into hboot. Verify that you now see S-ON instead of S-OFF. Assuming you do, you need to get that PC36IMG.zip file on to the root of the sdcard, in the same place that you copied the s-on tool. You'd have to have renamed the file before doing so. It needs to be named PC36IMG.zip, exactly. That means that you should not unzip it, or accidentally name it something like PC36IMG.zip.zip. That can happen a lot on windows. I trust you're ok with that if you flashed Clockwork already. You can copy that file via usb when the phone is in hboot, recovery, or booted up normally. It's probably best to reboot into recovery again, then select the option to mount the sdcard via usb. I forget exactly where the option is in CW off the top of my head, but it's not hard to find. It lets you browse the sdcard from your computer just like when the phone is booted up normally. Copy that PC36IMG.zip file over, then reboot back into hboot.

When it prompts you to flash the PC36IMG.zip file in hboot (*not* recovery), accept it. Once it is done, you can reboot, and your phone should be back in a stock state, with no apps or settings changed from complete stock.

EDIT: Oh, and once that is done, reboot into hboot again, and let me know what you see for your radio version. I'll probably be going to bed soon, so if I don't respond right away, I apologize.
 
I got it back too normal, beautifully camera works cam corder works everything is stock. I love you and I appreciate people like you out there in this world. You saved me 400 dollars. One more question.. will my phone update regularly now if a new version of something is available?
 
Great :). Sometimes you just need to slow down and work though steps one at time. You will indeed be able to accept normal OTA updates from now on. I have to ask, though, is there a reason you wanted to unroot? If you care about rooting your phone again, accepting OTA updates isn't a great idea, as you'll temporarily (and potentially permanently) lose the ability to root again. As I said, having fully unrooted, you can accept OTA updates now, but don't do it if you want to root again. Updating manually while rooted is a much better idea.
