Finger print reader/lock screen question

From watching some hands-on vids it looks as though after using the finger print reader to turn on phone that you will still be directed to a lock screen where you will need to swipe to unlock. Does anyone know if the slide to unlock screen can be by-passed? Sorry if this is dumb question, but I currently use iphone4 and there is no way to bypass lock screen. I really think it is over-kill to have to do both. Thanks.

On all Android phones, there is an option in settings to disable screen lock. I would assume this option would be on the Atrix as well.

And can you give me a link to the hands on video with fingerprint reader shown. I want to see how well it actually works.
 
From what I saw in a video on youtube you hit the button to turn on the screen and then swipe your finder across the reader to unlock. It seemed really snappy when the guy did it.
 
I'm hoping that with the fingerprint reader, if the finger fails, you can set it to also accept a password, so I can let a friend use it without having to scan my finger for him.

Good point. I hope it has that option of a password as well.
 
yea but that video i think shows where the finger print scanner is disabled because in another video you push the button, and then swipe your finger on the scanner to unlock the phone. So, I think you only have to scan, not scan and swipe on the screen.

Can't believe I never saw that. I think that might really save some time have to check it out.
 
This feature looks way cool!! Now my buddy who's always trying to use my phone..........Can't LOL!!

I also saw one of the videos where swiping the finger bypassed the slide lock screen and brought you direct to the home screen. Looked pretty slick.
 
The real test will be to see how well it really works in the Final Production model. If it works well it'll be Super Slick..
 
I always wonder what happens when you were out in the yard pounding nails and hit your thumb with the hammer. Point is, what do you do if the scanner won't recognize your finger? I assume there's a normal password entry option.

Yep. Because that feature is just about built-in on most laptops that have fingerprint readers, I'm hoping that Motorola will include it as well. Or at least provide easy access for third party developers to implement it.

AFAIK, you swipe your finger which commands the computer to input a saved password. Think of it like the auto-complete feature in your web browser, the difference being its not automatic, you need to swipe your finger first...

Exactly, you still have a password, it's just that you can use your fingerprint instead of the password if you have them linked up. On my Thinkpad, you ALWAYS have the option of using the password instead of the fingerprint scanner. It would be impractical otherwise. I'm assuming it will be similar on the Atrix.
 
Has anyone seen a video showing the fingerprint reader unlocking the phone not just the button going to the lock screen? If so please post it.
 
it doesn't appear in the video that the girl does any swiping on the front screen before turning the phone around, so I'm thinking that you won't have to unlock on the screen if you use the fingerprint reader.

You can see the clock from the lock screen disappearing when she turns the phone around. The sensor looks like it works pretty quick.
 
Here's a quote from a NYTimes article that confirms the ability to use a pin to unlock if you needed to allow someone to use your phone when not around it.

This was what everyone thought but this verifies that to be correct.

A fingerprint scanner built into the power button protects your privacy. When set, it requires a swipe of the owner’s digit to unlock the phone. But don’t worry, there is a pin-number backup in case you leave your phone at home and need someone else to unlock it and look something up.

anyone know if you can use the fingerprint reader from the opposite angle? say... if you're swiping from the front as opposed to the rear (like all the videos are showing)?
