Root Benchmarks in 2.2

Are benchmarks a deciding factor in how good your phone really is. Im so disappointed in my phones numbers in the benchmarks i have done.

There is no singular "unofficial ROM from XDA". XDA hosts threads for dozens and dozens of "unofficial ROMs" for the Captivate, all hacked-up by end users using various bits and pieces from other ROMs.

You should mention which you used.

Thats a good question come to think of it i dont know. However, i have come along way since making that post. Im now on cog 3.0.4, I tried Serendipity didnt care for it. Benchmarks are so much better and better yet i have learned a great deal about flashing Roms.

Try Smartbench. It's much more legit for when it comes to actual and perceived performance vs quadrant which for some reason can be really high with some lag fixes but aren't really any faster than other lag fixes. Most lag fixed phones will range from 1300 - 2200 but not really be any faster.

My experience is that the benchmarks don't mean much in the real world. I've used overclocked ROMs and those that were not. Couldn't tell any difference. That said, there are gamers who will say otherwise because of the graphics-intensive nature of what they're doing.

This is true. For those apps don't push the phone to the limit won't feel much difference whether you overclock your phone or not. Benchmark apps were designed to stress your phone to the limit so apps that demand more hardware resources will feel faster.

Personally, I am a heavy user who likes to run multiple apps all the time so overclocking does help, and it certainly feels snappier.

But when you look at the scores for each benchmarks, you need to pay attention on whether the benchmark app is correctly representing your daily usage of your phone. If it does, then there's a better chance that the benchmark scores are more applicable for you.

i really dont know what to make of these quadrant scores. last night i rooted, installed OCLF, and i was getting like 2100 score. this morning i flashed serendipity 5.5 and ran quadrant again at got like 1550..........but the phones feels much snappier after the rom flash than before.

also OCLF dosnt seem to work any more but i guess theres not point now

The short version is: Quadrant scores are virtually meaningless.

Slightly-longer version: the method OCLF uses to apply a "lagfix" to stock 2.1 is complicated/dirty and results in artificially-inflated Quadrant benchmarks due to the way Quadrant works. Think stepping on your gas pedal while in neutral, revving your RPMs to 4000 and thinking you're going really fast.

ah, this makes sense. so even though the number after the rom flash is lower, it is still very possible that the phone is performing better that it was when displaying the rediculous 2100 score
