First off I think it was here: http://androidforums.com/sprint/273876-upgrade-after-4-1-a.html that someone confirmed that if you are eligible for an upgrade before April 1st they will not take it away, it's only for people who are eligible after April 1st that will loose it. I would like to get out ETF free but haven't tried yet. It's worth a shot. Just say it's because of the $10 fee, the rise of the Federal surcharge and the upcoming rise in the 411 fee as of March 1st. I'm going to use everything I can to try to get out and switch to pre-paid and save $60+ a month. I would LOVE an iPhone but can't justify the price increase to Verizon for it. ;)

Another Kick in the pants is that Sprint sent me an email last week touting the benefits of my "Premier Status" One of them... an annual upgrade.

If they take that from me, I feel sorry for the customer service rep that picks up my phone call.

I think Sprint spent a lot of, what we call here in Washington, "political capital" with this announcement. This will hurt Sprint in the short term. Personally, I was hoping for the EVO 2. But if not the EVO 2, then some other exciting announcement. Why Sprint would hold an event for this device when CES is still fresh in people's minds is just baffling to me. Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile all have some kick-@ss phones in the pipeline. Sprint? I have no idea.

I assume that Sprint will announce the EVO 2 at CTIA, but I don't know for sure. And even if Sprint does announce an EVO 2, what about other high-end Android devices? Right now Sprint is leaving too much to the imagination regarding their upcoming devices. Speaking for myself, the Echo is NOT a compelling device. At all. The Echo is a gimmick. Some unfortunate souls will buy this device because some Sprint sales rep convinces them to, and end up pissed off a few months into their 2 year contract. Sprint has a looong history of foisting crappy devices onto its customers and the Echo will continue that "legacy."

As for my relationship with Sprint, I'm not going anywhere 'til November when my current contract expires. This stupid Kyocera Echo announcement isn't going to compel me to cancel my contract with Sprint. Sprint has until November to impress me. As Ms Jennell has said over and over in this thread, Sprint will be announcing and releasing more devices this year. But if Sprint doesn't release anything comparable to the Atrix, then I'll be taking my business elsewhere in November...

I was hoping for something that could compete with the Motorola Atrix. Instead we got Kyocera's new advanced flip phone.

This. Its been a long, long time since I've had phone envy. I was hoping for something that could compete with the atrix. Instead, we have a Nintendo DS with android. Oh, and no Nintendo DS games.

Sprint also has until November to impress me as well.

Why a press event over this phone, I have no idea.

It's interesting, and will probably sell decent. The dual screens will attact consumers. But really, this phone is not a beast that is worthy of a press event. Not even close.

Evo2? New Palm? Iphone? I can understand building a presser around any of those items, but this thing? Not even close.

it was funny when that vid was used on iphone's antenna issue.
I bet Dan H... laughed at that too.

but when he see's it used on his stupid huge event failure... I would pay to see his face!!!

The vid was hilarious! I expected this type of bite in the reporting about the event, but it's been fairly tame.

As to that phone, it's not going to be a big seller at all. Really, dual-screen but not dual processor and no 4G? How could Kyocera even allow that to happen - they're trying to break into the ultracompetitive phone market with this thing?

Were any of these phones handed out at the event or are people that embarrassed and underwhelmed to admit they have one.

Love the Jitterbug and beeper references!

So this is my first post ever. After the huuuge letdown that was the Echo announcement, and David Blaine in a fish tank...I have come up with my own magic trick to make the Evo 2 appear. It's quite simple actually. All I do is upgrade my Hero to an Evo and VOILA..the Evo 2 will be announced the following day. For reals Sprint....HURRY UP ALREADY!!

It was only hyped up by people of the forums and not by Sprint. The people who are amazingly let down and disappointed are because of how much they hyped it up in their own mind. Sprint doesn't announce at CES. They announce at CTIA. In March.

So if there wasnt any hype. Why did they bring in a Magician? Why a special VIP event? The fact is they did hype it. Whether or not it was over hyped is subjective. You dont call in a circus act to an event and and show off miniature ponies instead of elephants. Very underwhelming. The form factor looks neat. But the spec sheet is so early 2010.

This isn't meant to be one of their flagship phones for 2011....

I didn't recall this discussion being whether or not we think this POS would be Sprint's Flagship device. If I remember correctly it was about how we felt about Sprints big time press conference featuring David Blaine "Impossible is Possible" VIP announcement. I think we all agree that this isn't their only device for 2011 (I certainly hope not) or that it will be their flagship phone. All I know is that there was no David Blaine, no "Impossible is Possible" or a exclusive VIP event for the HTC EVO 4G.

I agree. That announcement was a total joke. Very overhyped. Come join David blaine and witness Sprint introduce an "Impossible First"

1) I thought David Blaine would introduce the phone. Instead he was in some fishtank in the back. He didnt talk, and you were not allowed to take pictures? What was the point of having him there?

2) The phone was a huge let down. I was expecting a 3D phone, instead we get 2 screens? Why would anyone think that is "Impossible"

3) The Demo was poopoo. They had a huge mock up of the Dual Screen phone.... and on each screen was the same video? Uh, who set this up! Couldnt set up two different video feeds, so you could see the mockup doing 2 things?

None of it really matters. It happened. What would you like, an apology from sprint or something? Seriously. They had it, it happened. More things will be announced at MWC next week and at CTIA next month. It really isn't that big of a deal.

A 3D phone would be as useless as the 2 screens....

And welcome back. ;-)

Well if doesnt really matter, why do you feel obliged to defend Sprint with the fervor of a Knight going off to the Crusades?

It sounds like you work for Sprint. If thats the case you should issue an official apology on their behalf for such a elaborate event while producing such a mediocre offering. But with all regard forget it. I get enough apologies from sprint every other month when they botch my bill.

Really? It isnt a big deal? So why a VIP event? Why a side show act? Why claiming to produce a industry first? (My Sanyo Katana and Samsung Upstage had dual screens :D) Why say this device or product will make the impossible possible? Sorry but Im just giving my 2 cents, Sprint made it into a big deal not us.

3D useless? Maybe. I can remember a time not so long ago when a front facing camera was considered useless. Now its a standard high end feature. Oh yeah the Echo doesnt have one oops lol! :D

It would be useless... and probably bad for your eyes. However, its a more of an "Impossible first" than a Dual screen phone(Since those have already been around for years).

Just think about that commercial "First is".
First is a Dual Screen phone?
or
First is a 3D 4G Phone?

Its good to be back. Welcome back to you too!

I actually don't work for sprint. If I did I would have to drive almost 3 hours one way to work. That would absolutely suck. I am not defending sprint. The point I am making is that everyone is acting like their family member was just murdered by sprint. It is not that serious. It is a phone for god sakes. And not even the only phone that sprint will announce this year. I mean hell we have MWC next week and CTIA next month. I buy phones and switch phones more often than most people on here. I want a new phones to replace the ones I want just as badly as anybody else but I have it in percpective also. Which seems to be what some people are lacking. And if I worked for sprint why would I be telling people that they should check out other carriers and find what works best for them? That would make me the worst employee ever. The announcement wasn't what I expected but am I going to lose sleep over it? Heck no. I konw that if they don't announce things I want at MWC and CTIA I have an option to switch.
