It would be useless... and probably bad for your eyes. However, its a more of an "Impossible first" than a Dual screen phone(Since those have already been around for years).

Just think about that commercial "First is".
First is a Dual Screen phone?
or
First is a 3D 4G Phone?

Its good to be back. Welcome back to you too!

Both are on the same level to me. I wouldn't give two thoughts about either of them. But I know just as many people who would fall for both gimics. That is all it is. A phone that will get normal consumers to be like "wow". And all the talking and what have you about the Echo is doing just that to normal consumers. Obviously to all of us phone nerds this phone is crap. But to an average consumer who walks in the door this phone will be a easy sell.

It is good to be back. To state my opinion very loudly again! Haha. :D

It's not really the point that other phones are coming, it's that in the grand scheme of their premier phones over the past few years, the Echo desn't really qualify as one. The only thing about it that's interesting is the dual screen, and it's not even well implemented in respects to it's multitasking capabilities. It doesn't bring anything else to the table. So against some of the other Premier phones that are out there, why was this hyped up with david blaine, a big evening event with invites galore to the tech community? It simply didn't warrant it and was. Complete waste of money and time. With the changes they're making to take more money out of ther customers' pockets it would be nice to see something in return. And starting it off with all this hype and hoopla over a phone such as this just leaves a bad taste in people's mouths. Even the Evo didn't get such an event.

On a similar note, in Philly they had a big event at one of the new casinos to launch the new BB Style. Gave away new phones to all that attended and such. That big event over a mediocre BB flip phone when the Bold came with a quiet introduction?

When you constantly see bad markting decisions it just gets frustrating to know this is the company you're in bed with, and for us it's to the tune of about $50k/yr. I just expect better.

Everyone keeps saying other phones are coming. Do you know something I don't?

Sprint made such a big deal about this P.O.S. phone that they may not have any others until the holiday season (or even next year). And even if they do have other phones, how do we know it won't be another P.O.S. like the this Kyocera?

I certainly hope sprint has something big that we don't know about, but it's definitely not a given.

^^^^ really.. seriously?? ok.. whatever. the sky is falling all the damn time!

When is the last time Sprint released a great phone that nobody knew about? The Evo was known about and being talked about for several months before it was announced.

Not saying Sprint doesn't have anything in the pipeline for this year. I'm just saying all the people saying "it's no big deal, sprint will have plenty of phones this year" aren't anymore correct than everyone that is pissed about this P.O.S. phone.

That is what kind of worries me too. These Blockbuster EVO-like devices are usually leaked a couple mos before announced... and we've got not even a rumor. However, I do think that Sprint will release an EVO successor this year, and, at the time of this post, the EVO is still the (one of the) best phones available. But I sure would like to know what we have to look forward to this year.

sure what you say.. has a possibility.. that it might come true.. that a big carrier like sprint.. will not bring 1 great phone before end of 2011. and I can win the lotto. it is possible. yes.

but if I was to bet.. I would bet on....
I will not win the lotto
and sprint will bring a great android phone in 2011.

Does Sprint have some long standing history of several big announcements every year or something?

Last year they did the Evo and that's it, right? When they announced the Instinct, did they have another big announcement that year?

You guys keep acting like I'm crazy or something. The fact is, history indicates there probably won't be another big release from Sprint this year. Yeah, it's possible they release another phone. But you guys acting like it's a sure thing are the crazy ones.

We already got an Evo Shift this year (which Sprint is currently advertising like a flagship phone) and now this Kyocera that Sprint is clearly treating like a flagship phone. How many more do you think Sprint is going to release and when have they ever done that many before?

I think We'll get a Windows phone, a Blackberry, and maybe a Palm. If you are saying we're sure to get another Android phone, I hope you're right but the odds are stacked way against that happening.

That's still not the point. That's not what this thread is about. We are expressing our disdain for the EVENT, not Sprint's FUTURE LINE UP.

i do know that in past..

1. sprint line up has always been in the shadow of other 3 carriers. but they do not do nothing. and not far behind.
2. Evo was the first to be ahead of the game. I think they enjoy that and see the benefits. I hope they are smart enough to learn that lesson.
3. this is only February!
4. Sprint said on Feb 8.. they plan to release many android phones this year.. if I remember right.. like 1 each month. and they will be 4G.
5. we have heard of many rumors.. Pyramid is one. Saber is another.
6. yes the ECHO event was bad publicity .. but as they say.. any publicity; bad or good.. is better than none. Everyone is talking about it.

this is all speculation.. i understand that.
so we can only sit back and wait and see.
i am good to wait.

Really, dual-screen but not dual processor and no 4G?

I can 100% guarantee you the majority of phone buyers in the USA don't care about dual core or 4G, but many will be attracted to dual screens, especially when compared to other Sprint midrange phones.

The Echo will get finger banged at Sprint shops more than the Evo Shift, without a doubt.

You make everyone's negative point. This "event" isn't known by the masses. It's for the tech crowd who are looking for a techno marvel worthy of such an event. This phone is far from a flagship phone. Nobody understands why it deserved a big event.

In philly they had a big event for the Style yet th Evo Shift quietly enters the market. Just seems like poor business decisions in choosing what phones to sink promo money into nd how they go about doing it.

When compared to other Sprint midrange phones? This phone is hitting the market as the most expensive phone in Sprint's lineup. It won't be compared to midrange phones.

lol i honestly wish they'd have announced an evo 2 or even froyo for the epic so it wouldnt be so many ppl complaining haha

my friend on sprint has been complaining about it ha

Yes but when it first came out it was $250 after a $100 mail in rebate. I am sure 6 months after the Echo comes out it wont be $199 any more.

And I am sure the Epic won't be $200 6 months after the Echo is released either.

The point is, nobody is going to be comparing the Echo to mid range devices if it is the most expensive phone in Sprint's lineup- which it will be when it is released.

The Echo news was broken by the Wall Street Journal well before any "tech crowd" websites.

This was a business move for the sake of the stock holders, and keep Sprint's name in the press more than to appease any tinkerer on XDA.

While many on this forum is gnashing teeth like Sprint slapped their mother, Sprint can tell their shareholders they have forged a relationship with Kyocera, they have the first and only dual screen android phone, and can offer another mid-range android phone.

And I still maintain that at the end of the day, when customers walk into a Sprint store the Echo will catch their eye and get more attention than the Evo Shift.

Personally, I am not all that interested in the Echo, but then again I don't want a mid-range phone.

Why does everyone keep saying the Echo is meant to be a mid range device? Please explain how the most expensive device in Sprint's lineup is only meant to be a mid range device...

Broken by WSJ does not count as press issued by Sprint. They break stuff all the time, especially when it comes to Apple. Apples to oranges comparison there.

Stock holders? If was a stock holder I'd be pissed they wasted more of my money on a fruitless press conference for a phone with yesterday's specs (in comparison to what's being touted elsewhere) that's priced to stand beside the big boys yet can't hang. The Evo, Epic and Shift didn't even get a press conference like the Echo did.

If I was a stock holder I'd prefer to hear that money was spent beefing up the network or doing something that gives back to its customers in light of how they're now getting screwed. With higher monthlies and longer contracts for upgrades. They're still losing customers on the post paid side. They're still running at a defecit. They till hve no clue when it comes to marketing.

I don't think I've seen one tech site give any real praise for this phone because whatever advantage it might have, it gets taken away because it lacks horespower. Outside of the pro armchair quarterbacks in this thread, the rest of the tech world seems to be more on the con side.

I don't even think Sprint has a mid range device. The evo, epic and shift are ll top tier, and the sanyo, lg and samsungs are all basic. To me, midrange would be the shift with no 4g, but that gets cancelled ou having to pay $10 more. Come summer, the evo, epic and shift will all be mid grade. Dual core will be the top tier, and I wouldn't waste money on the bargain basement models. They are missing a high end 3.6" droid Incredible type phone though to go along with the Shift. The galaxy s2 would fit that gap nicely especially if you get suckered into thinking you'll gvet anything beyond gingerbread on it.

The Galaxy S 2 is 4.3", not 3.6".

I agree that all those devices will be midrange by summer too. Especially when compared to what the other carriers have. But that doesn't mean Sprint sees them that way. If they are charging top dollar for them, then they have to be considered high end devices.
