Root [UPDATED 28/12 - NEW INSTALLER] CyanogenMod 7/Android 2.3.4 Is avaliable for GT540!

yeah, i installed it via fastboot, and, via rom manager, and via terminal, nothing shows up, not even the lg logo, it just vibrates when it gets powered on but then, nothing happens , i want to changue the kernel , because seems like the gameloft HD games won't run with the 2.6.29 kernel , and i read in another forum that changing it with a newer one , 2.6.32, will fix it

How did you install via rom manager? The GT540 isn't supported by ROM manager...? Did you flash a different kernel?

i chose the "null" option in rom manager, no i have yet to flash the kernel because i need to get to recovery mode first which i can't :(

What I have Vista
what can i do?

download the file above ^^^^

unzip it to your desktop

once you unzipt it, right click on android_usb.inf and click install

unplug your phone, and plug it again,

check that mass stoarge it's not enabled and that you don't have your sd card in it

and re do the fastboot steps again

has anyone gotten swap working?

yes, i have , but i don't know about using swap, to me it didn't improve performance at all, and it degrades the sd card life and since our phone is low on RAM , it will be swapping too much

even when swapper2 says it can't create the swap file , it is using it, this can be checked in setcpu

i have reflashed the phone again, and make sure i installed the clokwork mod, and still nothing comes up, how long does it take to show the recovery mode?

and just make sure im using the right combination of buttons, it's camera+power on, or camera+volume down+power on?

Thanks for your support with this thread. I just updated from 2.2 to 2.3 and am very happy with the setup. On my phone the camera button now works properly (it did not work in 2.2), but a couple of apps do not work in 2.3.

I found the instructions very clear but suggest you clarify the procedure around step3x. After the phone has rebooted you need to reinsert the SD card.

I found that step 3x a, b and c did not work for me. I got a message after each adb command that the device was not found. I assume it was a driver thing? The phone was offering me to become a mass storage device, so I just used windows explorer to copy the 3 files onto the sdcard.

step 3xi worked ok.

I had a very slight proble on my phone with step 3xii. I found I could not paste the file into the system directory the first time. My phone complained that the directory was mounted as read only. I needed to press the button to mount the directory as R/W before I pressed the paste button. Not a big problem, but I wanted to write it here in case it helps someone install the patches for the camera, mic and I expect keyboard bugs, etc.

I found a note in the readme file that explained that the android native wifi tether did not work and suggested that "wireless tether" should be used from the market. I have downloaded "wireless tether for root" and find that it works really well.

I am yet to use setcpu.

I have a couple of questions:

I was attracted to 2.3 because of the good things I read about the navigation software. Now I am not sure what I need to download to get it running. Can someone please make a suggestion?

Also, skype seems to not be working? Has anyone noticed that? I used "Mybackup for root" and have not gone back to the market for the app.

Thanks again for all the support. I am another really happy user.

Bye for now, Robert

Hi YouTu, I think it is camera and power on. I kept the camera button pressed until the orange text appeared.

Good Luck, Robert
