[RELEASED] The 4.3 inch "Thunderbolt" aka "Mecha" aka "Incredible HD" from HTC...beyond coming soon!

Hoping this won't be an issue but thought to ask. If I go with Tbolt it will be my first Android phone. As I am unfamiliar with Android, this may be a moot issue.

Those who were around when EVDO first rolled out may remember that new EVDO capable phones in 1X areas continued to "look" for the EVDO signal. This was killing batteries fast. I think my first EVDO capable phone was the v710 which had an option to turn the EVDO off.

As I live in a rural area, at least 100 miles form LTE signal, and unlikely to get LTE signal here anytime soon, is there any chance this issue of the phone constantly "looking" for LTE signal could be a repeat of the EVDO problem? Does anyone know if the LTE radio can be turned off? Or, better still, if the "Looking" feature is now more automated and less degrading to battery life?

The LTE radio is activated by a sim card, so I would think that if you take the sim card out you would be able to effectively turn off the LTE radio.

You will be able to switch on/off 4G with a static button on the screen just as you can now with the 3G radio. Switching off 4G should not turn your radio (voice) off being that all voice is still using 3G and 4G will only be used for data (as of now).

Thanks but I would hope this would not be necessary. Given how likely users will be popping in and out of LTE signal in urban areas, removing the SIM could become a real nuisance real fast. And, those outside of urban areas having to take the SIM out and put it back each time they may be in LTE areas... I am hoping there is a better solution.

Isn't Mark Pavlik big in the Dev community, or am I thinking of someone else?

i believe mark to have done some work with the og droid some time ago. kernels and such. i have no idea if he still does or if he is working on different device. i lost track since moving to the x awhile ago.

That is what I was thinking, I know I have heard the name before :)

What's funny is that the dev community still seems to be going pretty strong on the OG Droid. I still love mine, but the poor girl is starting to show her age.

yea i gave mine to my wife i sneak it ever so often and put a new rom on it (to her dismay lol) its what keeps me attracted to the thunderbolt. i miss that.

Are you calling us slackers?

There were less available choices of Android phones back when the Inc was coming out. Now, with so many choices, the numbers are starting to spread out a bit

Yeah I was talking about how big it was back a few pages back or a different thread, I don't know now.

It was crazy back then, with how fast we were going through pages, every but of information was getting lost because of it. I miss them days, but am thankful that it isn't that crazy here.

Yes the last part is about the Bionic being released around Easter, the first part with the "thunder rolls" is about the Thunderbolt being released around St. Patrick's day.

3 weeks of TV, Internet, and print ads is a very large ad campaign. Seems a bit nuts, especially considering the BB print ad.
