No matter - if it is better data speeds, they can charge more. The data pricing has very little to do with overhead costs, more to do with performance compared to competitors.

We also have competition costs

Verizon would be the only one to launch there 4G network with no extra charge pricing and at the same be unlimited still

It won't stay that way i can guarantee you that, but it makes sense to do this when there is not that much coverage as of yet
I've even spoken to some of my Verizon friends that have already had there LTE training, which they confirmed it wouldn't change in price or be capped
its so they can get ahead on competition and be VERY competitive against the "fake" 4G competitors (AT&T and T-mobile) Sprint is losing alot of money each day and there being forced to move to LTE as well, so even when that happens, Sprint will be the most expensive thanks to that 4G extra price of $20 and the extra $10 data premium.

the extra $50 for the ThunderBolt probably makes up for the difference in 4G phone cost, when LTE was first announced analysts predicted that would happen since LTE antennas cost more money to make that small (notice how the ThunderBolt is thicker than the EVO)

Also - the price looks to have risen $50. Still no data plan pricing.

The launch party could just as well be for the XOOM. I think that is even more likely than a party for the TB. The Xoom came out the next day. The TB could have just been there for sh*ts and giggles.

I agree. Hopefully it's all good news though.

Can anyone else see the 1000% negativity in that post? or am I seeing things

I think we have all gotten our hopes crushed at some point in this whole debacle. I'm sure they are as frustrated as anyone else, and just don't want to get their hopes up only to have them whisked away again.;)

I'm a realist. And what is there to be positive about? Raised prices? No dates, no plan pricing, no Skype, nothing...

I'm still hopeful about the phone, but I gotta root my hope in some reality - which you have to admit is looking pretty grim right now.

Prediction - released in the next 2 weeks - price is $299 - LTE data plan is $42-45 instead of $30 per month. Enterprise data plan around $55. If you don't buy the LTE data plan, you don't get an LTE sim card and just work off the CDMA and can't surf and voice at the same time.

And at those prices, with no Skype, I'll pass and hope to find wifi hotspots where I can.

No Skype and I also read somewhere no Swype? I thought most of VZW newer Android phones all had Swype, but I could be wrong.

I'd be really surprised to see an announcement today, since it is the Xoom's first official day. I could see them announcing next week, but who knows. All we know is it is out there and is coming.

And they have until the end of March before people really lose thier sh*t.

Sense UI phones don't have Swype, HTC was rumored to be working on something similar to integrate into Sense

Is it 1GB/s or 1 Gb/s?

htc_thunderbolt_speedtest.jpg

Its not far off, even when the network gets loaded it should still be fast

Gigabit per second

A gigabit per second (Gbit/s, Gb/s, or Gbps) is a unit of data transfer rate equal to:

  • 1,000 megabits per second or
  • 1,000,000 kilobits per second or
  • 1,000,000,000 bits per second or
  • 125,000,000 bytes per second
Its the same mumbo jumbo that Broadband carriers use to measure there speeds.

Edit:

1 Gbps 1,000,000,000 Bits 125,000,000 Bytes 122,070 Kilobytes (119MB/sec)
Megabytes NOT bits! THATS extremely FAST
