Only other way they can get it on the phone is to install it from Marketplace, but its not on Sense UI phones

Swype | Text Input for Screens

HTC's input method is there standard Virtual QWERTY, not using Swpe. (to slide your finger around the keys to get words to type quickly)

Actually, Swype came pre-loaded on the last OTA update for the Evo. (It did not come pre-loaded on the Shift from the same release era, so it's unclear if this was HTC or Sprint's doing.)

Other popular contenders for this type of input are SlideIt and FlexT9, with at least one guy in the Evo forums telling everyone to drop Swype in favor of FlexT9.

Keypurr also has a great reputation.

All worth exploring.

When did we get an official announcement on pricing, or release date? People are getting upset about hear say. I don't get it. I want this phone as bad as anyone, but there is no official pricing or release date. Bestbuy screwed the pooch on this one, not Verizon. It will be out very soon and everyone will be as happy as flies on s#@t. Bestbuy put out two different prices in two papers in the same week for the same phone, took a lot of money from people, and gave them gift cards to buy the Thunderbolt. If people don't buy the bolt, they have to buy something from Bestbuy, that's good business. LOL!!!!

I believe they had a weekly sale price valid from Sunday-Saturday and then a monthly(?) magazine/flyer thing with a higer, non-sale price. That to me makes sense if you are only going to sell the phone at a discount for the first week. Also, not an uncommon business practice in general.

Also, not all the blame goes on BB here. Working in retail and ecommerce, I can say that you are constantly relying on information from your carriers, suppliers/manufacturers etc. Countless times I have heard, "oh that order/container/etc is DEFINATELY shipping tomorrow," only to have it be delayed, sometimes for months.

Sure BB probably jumped the gun a bit and it will come back and bite them. But someone somewhere at VZW gave BB dates at some point, and now, just like I have seen so many times before from several large companies, the dates keep getting pushed back.

VZW probably does have estimated target dates in mind, best case scenarios if you will, and they probably keep getting pushed back. BB since they already look bad in this situation, are trying to give customers hope by relaying the information they think they know. I am not saying this is how either company should be handling this, just that I have seen it so many times before.

I called my BB and they told me it won't release today, 100% sure of that. He also said that the date continues to get pushed back that they won't be commenting on possible release dates at all, no matter what Verizon tells them, no matter if they have them in stock. I asked about the 28th and he said he'd be surprised if it got release within the next week. He sounded more than a little miffed at Verizon. He is the #2 in charge at that store and was in the mobile department helping out with the XOOM release. Apparently it is selling very well at my location.

.

having worked as the manager of Electronics (and numerous other departments) for a Target, i definitely understand this. Especially with Xbox 360's, Wii's, cd's and anything else that people are anxiously waiting for. that's why i give the benefit of the doubt to companies (ie BB) and don't hold the company accountable when they're just the distributor, not the supplier--and they know just as much (or little, depending who you talk to) as we do at times. Their VZW reps are often as clueless as the online customer reps that we speak to and i don't see the benefit in blaming someone for information they were never given.

I'm not saying that the leaks of information from BB didn't help get them in a little hot water, but it wasn't a corporate release memo, merely leaked pictures from employees and Signage that was sent for a future pending-release date.
I've faced way too many customers that heard from someone's best friends girlfriend that we had this item in stock because MTV said so. i could give a rats ass what MTV said, i know what's in my Electronics Lock Up cage and i can tell you honestly when i don't have something.

as for that BB employee that toyed around with "it's in that case right there", that's just deplorable. to clarify--the Employee=deplorable. not the XX,XXX other employees that work there.

Thanks for the recommendation EarlyMon. I just want to remind everyone that there is currently a full featured free trial version of Keypurr Keyboard available on Market. The only catch is that all copies of the trial will expire on February 28, so if you're curious about Keypurr, now's the time to try it for free.

How can we try it for free on our non-existent Thunderbolts man?!

Not that I would jump ship or anything (at least at this moment), but...

Sure is nice to stroll into an AT&T store and actually see a real Inspire 4G and Motorola Atrix...that have really been released...have real prices...and real people who will sell them to you because they are in stock. Some of these devices are admittedly lacking when compared to the t-bolt (especially the network)...but they do have one thing over our favorite 4G phantom. They are not perpetually pending!

You know, it's not so much the lack of an announcement that is kind of irritating here, it's like an overall attitude I think. I agree with that post from yesterday that interpreted as "rude" an apparent tweet from Verizon that suggested we all "move on to other topics." Right. Pepper the media with your ads to peak interest and then scold potential buyers for wanting something better than "coming soon" vagueness.

For me, time will tell if Verizon earns the high marks we all anticipate for 4G and for this device. Right now, though, I think there are failing grades for public relations. Of course...I'm waiting like the rest of us to be proven wrong. :)

Well said! :)

Hey Jay - question for you -

Not to get off topic here, but I was thinking of picking up a XOOM today. You mentioned that it was really awesome, etc. What about it is so great? I've seen some videos, but currently I use a 15 inch MacBook Pro as my laptop. Why is the XOOM so great that I'd consider switching from this to the XOOM (keep in mind, I have a Windows 7 desktop gaming PC that I use for games, school, productivity, etc. - I use the laptop as my "surf the web while sitting on the couch" kind of thing).

Thanks man :)

I have tried it and can also recomend this keyboard. Haven't bought it yet but plan to buy it once I get my TBolt. It can take some getting used to, but once you use it for a bit it is pretty fast and very accurate.

(and this is coming from someone who said they would never ever stop using swype or swiftkey... :) )

Even once it's released they failed. They failed when they let BB tell everyone the 14th. I'll be happy when I have my phone but I'll still hate Verizon, at least in a PR way. They would have to do something big for me to forgive them.

I also agree. It's going to be hard to get over the bitterness of being dismissed, even after I have the phone in my hands.

So, if the phones are shipping from HTC, then they're sitting in a warehouse somewhere, right? Why don't we know anyone who works at one of these warehouses?!

I guess I'm too nostalgic...longing for that corner store, value the repeat customer climate from a merchant. That's why when I buy other things - like home theatre gear, etc - I really look for non-mass market companies that are more accessible, especially with a certain kind of customer-centeredness. Maybe it's just me being retro.

Well, catch you all later down at the malt shop with the rest of the gang! :)
