Root CM7 RC1 for HTC Incredible

I'll give you my personal opinion with the experience of using all the stock slayher kernels and invisibleks modified one. Invisibleks is better on battery and is the same speed/smoothness as stock.

I have not tried chads kernel called incredikernel but there are many on XDA who say it is the bomb as for battery life. I see too many people posting issues though and I'm very satisfied with invisibleks version so I stick to it. His kernels for froyo are the battery kings imo

Battery life in general is good to very good with the right kernel and settings. It's still not as mature as Froyo kernels therefor battery life is not quite as good, but getting very very close. So close in fact it's almost a wash.
 
I'm going back to the nightlies. In my opinion, RC1 sucks. I'm a die-hard CM fan, as big as they come, but this release candidate blows big time.

This was my second stab at it. First time was en-route to Costa Rica (for a week), and I downloaded and installed through ROM Manager (did not bring computer with me). Second time was tonight. Both times, same problems. This time, I wiped data, cache, and Dalvik Cache 4 times each before installing. After installing, had all kinds of problems with the system force-closing, the Market force-closing, and just about every app that downloaded did so unsuccessfully. I finally scrapped the effort and restored back to Nightly #7 which runs absolutely wonderfully.

I'm really surprised the CM team put a release candidate out that was so bad... even if you have to jump through hoops to install it correctly, WHY? Why would you want to? Why should we even HAVE to? Nuff said.
 
I just flashed RC1 over a backup (#39 I think) and it has been flawless for the last week. No hoops

People had issues from the get go flashing RC1 after a full wipe as is obvious per XDA the day/night RC was released. I give it at least a day to see what people are experiencing then flash based on my observations. Less headache.

4 times each ehh?! :p

I tried incredikernel but I was getting random reboots every few hours. trying Invisibleks now
 
So I flashed CM7 after trying Virtuous and everything is running "smoothly" so far but after doing a Titanium recover I have my apps and some of my settings but not everything. Is that because of Gingerbread? My apps are not showing up on my home screens but the picture I had is. Just asking. Thanks.

From what I understand, you should not restore settings after flashing any different rom.
 
Now I get a force stop with everything I do. What's the dilly yo?

It always says android.process.media is stopping immediately.

In one of the Root Guides it said to do a total restore. I assumed it meant that. According to this forum and others the RC1 for CM7 is crapping out anyways. I will just reflash and only restore games and apps.
 
I just wish these HTC phones would get some decent battery life. 5 hours before I am forced to plug it in is bogus. I worked today for 5 hours and when i took out my phone I had 46% left after playing words with friends for 15 minutes. My boss has Droid X and has no battery issues at all gets almost a full day out of his charge. Not sure I will buy an HTC again, I have tried different Roms and Kernels and they all seem to get crappy battery life. Just my opinion anyway after having this phone for a year now.

I hear you. I decided to jump in and just get an 1800mA battery. Doesn't require and new back cover or special case. Has made a HUGE difference in my battery life and only cost like $30 if memory serves. Well well worth it.

When you change from one Rom to another (not necessarily the case if you're just going from one nightly to the next), you should just use Titanium to "Restore Missing Apps and Data". If you restore "All apps", you may over-write some of the native apps to the Rom and cause problems, particularly when going from a 2.2 based Rom to a 2.3 based Rom. The same thing of course also goes for "System data".

When I change Roms, I make sure I have a backup of the following:
  • Titanium
  • SMS Backup & Restore
  • ADW Launcher
  • AppBrain
  • Bookmarks (Dolphin Add-on)
  • Circle Launcher
  • *Nandroid - Only if I feel there is a chance I may need to revert.

That takes about 5 minutes and makes me feel confident that I can ALWAYS recover.

What are you getting for battery life with that 1800? I am getting about 4-5 hours before I have to plug it in. Would be great if I could get a solid 8 without having to panic and plug it back in.

Thanks. I just reflashed and used Titatnium tp restore missing apps and data. Working well now. Are there any kernels I should use or just stick with RC1 until the update comes out?
 
I have stuck with Stock while on CM7. I have used IncrediKernel with MIUI in the past with success because it was an option during initial Flashing (I never actually tried another with MIUI). I've read that it is stable with CM7 as well. However, to be completely honest, I don't really have any experience with testing one Kernel against another. So, I don't really know what differences are experienced.

I used to have to plug my phone in as soon as I got to the office and leave it like that, or I'd be left with <15% AT BEST. Now, I leave it unplugged all day long and leave the office at 5-6 and STILL have +45% remaining.

If I'm out running errands (shopping) with my wife, I will still plug it in while in the car to keep it charged. But, that's because I spend the whole time with my phone in my hand using it constantly.

I was skeptical at first, hence the reason why I took me 8 months to finally get one. NO REGRETS here.

Hope that helps. Sorry I don't have any more statistics to base my experiences on.
 
So I just realized I am not getting any Gmail notifications and some of the changes I make (syncing Facebook to contacts, custom images in the launcher bar) is not sticking. The Gmail issue is the biggest one though and I have the setting in Gmail for notification in the status bar. WTF am I doing wrong?

getting random reboots every few hours with invisebleks as well

I'm giving up on Cm7 RC1. I will install a nightly and see how that goes, then its back to virtous for me

Have you tried a full-wipe and fresh Flash of RC1? I have maybe one restart every day or two. Can be annoying, but not too noticeable.

Are you getting your Gmail notifications pushed to you or do you have to go in and refresh? That is why I dumped it and I did flash gapps as well as remove and titanium backup gmail.

that's what i did the first time. then I tried again. it would work for a while, then the restarts would keep coming

now I'm on to the latest weekly, and I'm not getting push gmail. arghrghrghr
 
Tried to install RC1 a couple times now with different issues.

1st time - over a nightly got lots of force closes etc.

2nd time - full wipe, factory reset etc - Can't get past "touch the android to begin". I can click change language and it appears I am touching the android (it lights up) but it won't move to next screen

Guess I will go back to a nightly for now.

Been using this rom for a couple weeks now but I finally have to give up on it. To many force closes with the launcher and other apps, way to many random reboots when im using a simple app like Radio.com or while I am doing something simple. I love love this rom but I just cant deal with issues like that all the time, once a week I could live with but everyday is not something I want. Guess I will go back to Skyraider or find something new.
