RE: Delay, notifications, speculation...

OK - it helps to be VERY familiar with the movie, The Usual Suspects.

If you're not, watch it, it's quite good.

Trying to explain without spoiling, the original quote was - The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

BMX is clearly a movie fan (see his earlier homage to Thunderbirds Are Go! movie).

In my opinion, what he just said was - things may not appear to be what they are, but if you pause and consider, things are obvious.

And for it's worth - that movie quote came in two places - once, slipped in, once at the end of the movie.

I don't think he's jerking anyone around - I think he takes what burden he can, and leaves a little fun for puzzle solvers. Nothing wrong with that.

;)

Correct me if I'm reaching a bit to far please. It seems to me that if the quote appeared once mixed in the movie and again at the end, maybe he is telling us that we are at the end of the wait, possible? If he is a movie fan (and it seems he REALLY is) he is throwing tweets out there, as you said to provide us with clues. If anyone REALLY expects him to come out and say, "Hey guys, I tested the TB and it's all ready for launch on March xx, 2011" you have no business owning a smartphone. JMO

Well - let's not go that far, everyone has the right to a smartphone. ;)

The bigger issue is job protection. For people providing leaks to us, it's always a challenge to end-run and get info out there without being specific enough to lose their jobs.

If they blow their cover, they're sunk - and we get nothing more.

In the case of BMX, he's very playful at the cat and mouse game.

Makes me like him all the more.

PS - If I had time, I'd re-watch both of those movies for hidden clues - I just have the suspicion that the tweets are the pointers, not the info. :)

I agree with this too. People are all freaking out like he is giving conflicting information. The reason for that is that the quote is being taken out of context.

The way VZ posted on their FB page, it almost makes things seem like this release is going to get pushed back even further. But really, I believe that people are reading too much into it.

Bottom line, the phone does exist and VZ is clearly having a ball with all of this.

In other words... HE WAS STIRRING THE POT!
exactly
How is that not "stirring the pot"? Seems a self-fulfilled result.

BMX seems upset that people took his tweets as the device is shipping. Based on VZW pulling ads (TB ads went from everywhere to nowhere) and VZW posting a detail free note today- seems the TB is a bit away yet. Anywhere from two weeks to end of month now seems to fit better than "this week".
when did I say it wasn't stirring the pot?

if you were possibly risking your job to give random people info, and they did nothing but whine and complain wouldn't you screw with them?(this isn't directed to either quoted post)

I agree. You can only get backlash so many times, before you just want to tell people to go fork themselves. It's funny how the people gripe about him, yet they keep following and posting links to his tweets. lol

Thanks! That makes a lot of sense, since I never saw that movie! :)

I read a news blog story the other day that Verizon has learned Apple's way of release deception to increase pent-up demand.

Today's events seem to confirm a certain logic to that, in my opinion.
Then they learned it last year with the release of the Incredible. I'm sure you remember the boards back then, it was a zoo.
We'll get it soon, but we all know that right? I believe that most people (me included) log on here just to see the thread, "In stores now!" and in the absence of that peruse the rest of the speculation threads. Time killer and fun as long as it doesn't get out of hand.

Also, it was like this for the OG Droid.

It's more or less like this for every phone they release that's worth a hoot.

Uhhhh.... Thunderhoot?

(ducks!!!)

I know this doesn't mean crap, but like 3000 other people, I was told by my friend (sales rep at VZW), that the phone was going to "probably" be out this Thursday...

And I'm still not believing him

I was being rhetorical... No emoticon for that :(

Just saw a verizon tb commercial on channel 5 @ 2:34pm - still says coming soon - This was the rooftop one from last week

I heard they pulled this commercial but now its back..

This information is useless unless you can provide the seconds..... :p

I totally agree that BMX is allowed to be puzzling and, at the same time, protective of his secrets and quite possibly his job. I do, however, expect the phone carrier I patronize to be much more straightforward. Hey Verizon, what's the problem with telling us what's going on? Your employees and retailers might be deserving of a few details as well.
