[RELEASED] The 4.3 inch "Thunderbolt" aka "Mecha" aka "Incredible HD" from HTC...beyond coming soon!

I would disagree. Seido makes an after market battery that doesn't change form factor. Drop in replacement. There are also 3rd party battery makers that you have to change the back cover.

I do. Siedio has made higher capacity batteries fit in the same chassis without need for a new cover. They suck but that's another story.

If it isn't my arch nemesis jfoey22! Foiled again!

Oh yeah and JINX123456...:D

@Bearly,
They could do a more powerful battery in the same size as the current one. I know the current one is about the size of a dinc's but you can buy a 1750 ma battery for the dinc without having to increase size. This would be great.

I hope the spec change isn't an 8 gig msd card instead of a 32gig.

Anyone know if this informer is at all reliable?

You guys are missing the obvious. It's going to be released on 3/14 since it's as good as apple pi

HTC has a 2750mah battery for the Tbolt now. It just requires a new back which will be offered with the battery.

The Greatest Trick Verizon Ever Pulled was telling the world the Thunderbolt existed...... have a good day all and I will holla later on.
I have to wonder if the trick wasn't, like mentioned, telling the world the Tbolt existed....as the internet did the rest of their work/hipe for them.

A bigger battery would make sense. This device probably has had the 1400 battery since it was a 3g device. We know 4g is a battery hog. I am betting it got the go ahead when vzw just gave up on improving battery life and just said " to hell with it. Give them a bigger battery" lol.

From what little information I have been bestowed with, the bigger battery theory is the most logical one. But I'm not confirming it ;)

If they suck its because they can't get around physics. I don't know if batteries can be made more dense or if that's cost prohibitive but I doubt the battery will be made bigger. If so then only by a marginal amount like extra 100 mAh

Maybe thats why they bumped the price up a little?

I can't comment on the density of the battery but they DO make the battery physically bigger. The 1700mAh replacement battery I had for my Eris was thicker than the stock one. So much so that it was more of a challenge getting the cover back on. It sucked because it delivered nowhere near the capacity promised when charged fully. I have no idea if this was due to physics, the quality of the parts, the quality of the build or a combination of all three.

Probably a rip-off batt made in China. :(:(

A bigger battery would be nice, but realistically, I doubt that would be it. Taking HTC's word that the Thunderbolt is already shipping to Verizon, then this would place the delay on software or perhaps something with the network. A fix can be applied OTA when the phone is activated. Simple and easy and cheap. A new battery is a much different story. That would mean tens or hundreds of thousands of boxes would have to be opened, old batteries removed, and new ones installed. The cost for that would be huge, and due to that, it wouldn't happen. Maybe they will kick in another battery or an extra charger, but I really don't see them paying people to open boxes, put in new batteries, and pack everything back up nice and neat. Just my two cents...

Or perhaps they include a battery out of the box?

With their claim of 500k new Verizon iPhone users and then the spike that will hit for the Bolt - I think they'd be doing you a favor NOT making this an OTA update - or maybe themselves. Can't see how that wouldn't be a bandwidth hog at the beginning, plus the unhappy few with the inevitable bad updates they'd have to face - or the confused who'd refuse the update and then complain anyway.

Seems like avoiding an initial OTA would be a cost-saver all around. Maybe.

Unless something is special with Verizon, iPhones don't update OTA. They only can be updated through iTunes ... at least that's how it was with my ex's iPhone.

Yes, understood that - was speculating on how new users NOT with a Bolt might complain if they got bandwidth-starved due to a big OTA. Sorry, should have made that clear.

Not knowing if an OTA would be required or Verizon's real capacity for this sort of thing, it's all a guess on my part.

He was talking about the extra data that is being used thanks to the new iPhone users making the network slower, not the iPhone updating OTA.

At one point someone from Verizon told me that they were going to have to open very box and reflash them. If this is the case they could simply add a different battery at that time.

I also saw some discussion here about them applying a new update before shipping.

The $50 price jump at BB would suddenly make sense too.

The only reason it was 300 dollars in the ad is because they make the ads weeks if not months before. They thought the phone would be out by now. They most likely were going to have a sell the first week it was out and still might.

@HTCThunderbolt
You are likely right, but all I really have to say is... I want my fraking phone already!!!

But don't we all.

And hey if this few extra weeks means I don't have to buy an aftermarket battery then all the better.

i doubt they will give us a bigger battery, sony ericsson had this same problem when the x10 came out. in less than a day (8 hours) my battery was drained from light use. they patched it up through an update and battery lasts a whole day now for me.
