Help 3G Speeds of 11kbps down!!!

FYI, I am running a stock Epic 2.1 DI18.

I downloaded the latest Slingplayer 1.2 app for my phone and all of a sudden it stopped working on 3G. Still works ok on 4G and Wi-Fi so I run SpeedTest.net to see what's up and I get the following speeds on 3G.

Down Up
11 201
28 162
56 156
19 120
49 205

WTF is going on??? :eek: I typically pull 3G download speeds in the 500-900 range in the Tampa, FL market.

Is it possible that the Slingplayer app did something to mess up my phone or is it just a coincidence? Could Sprint be throttling my data? I am not a huge user. Typically less than 2 gigs per month.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Have you tried removing the app and see if your speeds increase? You could always call Sprint and see if they are throttling you. Could be a network issue in the area you are using as well.
 
It almost sounds like a problem at the tower your phone is connecting to.

Have you tried a speedtest in a different area that would be covered by a different tower?

There is a thread on XDA that indicates that they are having issues in FL at the moment and hope to have everything resolved today. The OP in that thread sounds like he may be in the Lakeland/Orlando areas.

I'm south of Tampa with no issues though.

Thanks Kelmar. I was an hour north of Tampa for work today and was able to pull some normal 3G download speeds (although a bit sporadic).

Back in Tampa now and getting 34kbps down again so this definitely looks like a Sprint network issue.
 
I'm Having the same issue in Tampa! I live to the north and Speeds are still bad. Please let us know what you find out. Streaming Audio, Email, and everything data related is in bad shape. I did send Sprint an Email.

I am east of Tampa and been getting horrible speeds since Monday, averaging about 20K down. I am through Virgin Mobile on Sprint's network. I got 90k once today and I was happy!!!

Just found this thread through a google search. :)
 
I live in Tampa and work in Lakeland and have been having poor 3G speeds since March 1st. I have called Sprint support 3 times and they keep walking me through the basic steps that haven't fixed anything. Last night I was told to take my HTC EVO to a Sprint store so they can figure it out.

After several years of dealing with AT&T I was attracted to the competetive Sprint pricing and attractive smart phone options. Go figure a little over a month of me being able to cancel I start having the first issues.

I understand carriers have problems but just tell me you are having problems with the network in the area before wasting my time. I have already spent +2 hours on the phone and who knows how searching the internet. I will post some keywords below to better help people find this thread seeing as Sprint is no help at all.
