An update from my Corporate office...

Do you know if Skype will be available for the phone at some point, if not with initial release?

Also, where in Maryland is your store.

As some of you might remember...I recently took over ownership of a Wireless Zone in Maryland and I've relayed information that I've been told concerning all things TB here on the forums.

Well, this morning I got an email from the corporate office and spoke to my Verizon rep about it and they're both being told that the delay is caused by a software update and a required manual re-flash on all TB's that have been produced and that it should be released within the next two weeks. In addition, I'm also being told that Skype will NOT be included in the final release...although it has been advertised that it will be.

Once the phone does officially arrive...I will be offering special pricing for forum members on the phone and all accessories! I'll post that information when we get an official release date.
Im in Jersey, but if you can cut me a fair deal my business is yours! :-)

Fat chance it will be integrated in the phone initially. If that's the case, they will update it sometime later with Skype integration. If the app isn't on the phone at all, you can always download it yourself or there are plenty of video chat apps out there:
ooVoo Mobile (Beta) - Android app on AppBrain
FREE Video Calls, chat, VoIP - Android app on AppBrain

If this is true then why did BMX and Ben5 say that the final release was done?

because they know everything about releases and have never been wrong. ...they could have been referring to the final release of the software, and not the actual release date of the phone. personally i wouldn't hang on every word these insiders and testers have to say about release dates until verizon announces one. that's the main reason people are all e-motional right now. we're still in q1.

the OP got his information from his rep and they may not even know the final information...or are being very guarded about it due to potential for unforeseen circumstances to pop up.

I was told weeks ago when BMX was saying things were a go, that all the phones needed to be flashed. So this may have been on going for the last several weeks.

So they had to recall the phone to flash all of them? The couldnt just do a OTA update when you activate it? Yea Bmx said a week ago that the firmware ETC. was done. I still think we are good for a 17th release though

Assuming these folks are legit, this could be what they were talking about with releasing as 3G, though the device was intended as a 4G device. Seems VZW may be caving to BB and HTC pressure to get this puppy out, regardless of VZW original intent of 4G focus.

Johnnyboy (who has a demo) stated there is no 3G/4G adjustments, so the device does everything automatically. Perhaps VZW is making updatesand has something to do with this.... Or perhaps not.

I would hate to have a device that you can't toggle off 4G if you live in an area where 4G is not widespread. I can imagine the phone searching for a 4G signal constantly. As a matter of fact, when I supported iPhones, one of the things I'd look for when someone was complaining about battery life is where are they in AT&T's coverage map. If they were in an area with spotty 3G coverage (it's AT&T after-all) I'd tell them to turn off 3G unless they were specifically trying to download data or surf the internet. If you're just carrying the phone around it doesn't help battery life if your phone is constantly trying to connect to an iffy 3G area. Verizon and HTC are in for a world of hurt if the TB doesn't have a 4G toggle switch.

having a Wimax Evo, it actaully does get a little annoying turning on the separate 4g radio (shut up, i know it's a different type of 4g than LTE boasts) simply because i always forget to check something like Sensorly to see if i'm in a 4g covered area, so i rarely turn it on myself unless i'm in one particular spot in town (where i' can literally see the tower beside the road and know i get the signal while at lunch). Wimax here is green from the broad view on Sprints Map, but once you zoom in--it's really just outlining the major highways and a few weird spots downtown.

if this delay is indeed to fix an issue which would in turn allow the phone to search for LTE and switch automically into LTE receptive mode--without destroying the battery--then i'm all for it. i'm lucky enough to be in a city where LTE is pretty much everywhere (according to the locator) and yes, i zoomed in and panned around--and i should be good since i'm in one of those rollout cities.
still, i wouldn't mind a toggle.
even more, i wouldn't mind just having the phone.

BMX said that they have tested shipping out with 3g only but the device depends on 4g so much that in would be dumb to

i'm pretty much sold on the phone (barring any giant LTE pricing)---but if it shipped as a 3G Only, there's no way in hell i'd buy it.

i'm buying it strictly for the LTE access right out of the box.

if in fact it's just a simple modification to enable it post-purchase, and costs me nothing, then eh...slim chance.
i wouldn't want to buy it, be promised an upgrade (sound familiar --cough Froyo Samsung phones cough--) and never get it upgraded because the hype then falls on some other phone VZW wants to push and never honors their "it'll be upgraded" assurances to us TB users

Just shows different perspective :) Some of us prefer $30 a month unlimited 3G with better battery life and some want the extra speed- it is all good :) I hope.... All depends on VZW though.....

To be honest, the reason why I wanted to buy this mythphone was because I wanted a phone that was not outdated out of the box, which the Incredible will be.

However, with this phone being essentially cancelled, and no other good phones out there, I really have no choice but to wait. I might buy a Samsung when it's released. I am willing to bet, at this point in time, that we will see the Stealth, the Bionic, the Revo, and maybe another phone, before we see this mythphone.

And just who are you calling a psycho, you impolite person?

What I am saying is that the phone has no release date, and from what I heard, it will probably not have one for a long time. That makes it essentially cancelled. When it IS released, who knows, 5G technologies might be rolling around...

Ima stop you right there.. There is no way the we will have 5g anytime soon.. Only 15 percent of america has 4g.

I think he was joking (the Beiber/Ozzy commercial). But one thing remains certain, with each day that passes without the TB being released, that's 1 day closer that its spec build becomes obsolete.

If you feel the phone has been canceled why are you still hanging around.

Because I still have a slight glimmer of hope that it might be released in the near future. To be honest, my job kind of depends on reliable communications, which is not something my current phone can give me, due to the service. With me not willing to buy any of vzw's current offering of Androids (all obsolete), and Samsung being Samsung, HTC's my last choice (and the best choice at that).

I might have been a little rant-y earlier, but I am very very frustrated about this release. It's like they are still developing this thing (and from what I heard from vzw, it still is, in their words, being developed).

You would be surprised. All my friends say why are you getting a 4G when they have 6g??
