Andriod App Free Music - isnt this illegal?

So there's this app in the official app store:

Free Music Download - Android app on AppBrain

Downloads thousands of mainstream songs. Almost 5 out of 5 stars and appears to run fine on the Android. Isnt this illegal? Wouldnt it be super-easy to track a downloader as your home address is contracted to your phone?

Are all these users super-dumb or am I missing something? Doesnt an app submission at least have to pass some kind of legality check ?

Thanks all...

The software is not illegal. Your usage might be, if you are downloading content for which you are not licensed for.

Exactly why I did not use the app. Im surprised Google allows this software to exist in the store.

I am not debating whether it is right or not to download copyrighted material or if the application is awesome, my main point is that as you are downloading mp3's illegally OVER YOUR PHONE it is an extremely easy process for the RIAA to track you down as your phones internal device id # is directly linked to your name/address/activity etc. In other words the RIAA has a "no brainer" link to your name, address and what you have downloaded.

To me, this is an extremely dangerous application as the music is not free, it is being downloaded illegally and in the wide open.

Kind of like walking into Sears and screaming at the top of your lungs "Hello Everybody, Im here to shoplift"

I guess creating online search App is not illegal. However, the people who create illegal web sites with pirated music are illegal. Also, people who download music from illegal web site are also committing crime (According to RIAA website). It seems that RIAA will go after all these illegal web sites first. The big part of the problem is availabiltiy of these websites. Users download illegal stuff because it is avilable on the net. It is easy for RIAA to go after website which are few in numbers than millions of individual users. Once these websites are gone then RIAA does not need to worry about illegal downloads from individual users - there will be no Bamboo and hence there will be no flute!

I would nt be so sure. My cousin got "popped" by the RIAA for using "Born in the USA" as the background music on a YouTube video he created. Trust me, the RIAA will go after anyone they can identify.

When using the ringtone editor in the program, any idea where it saves too? I can't find the ringtone I created.

This isn't peer2peer, the RIAA can't see what you're doing unless they themselves are in control of the app and search engines. From what I can gather, the app searches known servers on the internet hosting the music, like how you can do the same thing by hacking google (intitle: etc) and isn't necessary illegal for the app makers if all they are doing is linking you to a search engine. That would make google illegal because you can use it for finding pirated things. If you live in the u.s. then yeah, it is illegal to download copyrighted material but not all record companies are under the RIAA's umbrella and won't go after you for doing it. In fact, Radiohead and NIN put their own music on filesharing networks and asked for donations and made more money than they would have through a RIAA connected record company. riaa radar is a good source for figuring out what acts are potentially risky.

btw bamboo are some of the fastest growing plants out there

I'm on my android phone and I want to download music to my phone.. I went to a couple different websites to try and get music, and I can't seem how to do it. Is there anyway that I can get music to download into my phone?
