ok before you all say "why shut it down, its better using wi-fi" i know that and i have my reasons.
moving on, i have tried several times now to turn off the wi-fi on my droid, both thru the power controll widget and also by going thru settings-wireless-wi-fi turn off wi-fi. but for some reason it keeps comming back on. is the droid set to automatically turn on the wifi when ever there is one aval even if i dont want it too? is there some hidden setting i am not seeing
(also, i checked local and there is nothing set up for wifi, just volume controls)

please help

That does sound a little odd but it's happened to me twice already. What I had to do to fix this is go to the Wireless settings and select the Wi-Fi network I was connected to and click on Forget. Once I did that it let me turn off Wi-Fi. I know its gonna take some extra work to re-enter your settings but this is what finally worked for me.

Maybe you loaded some app that always starts and automatically turns on wifi - some apps can turn on wifi by themselves.
