Root How to install ICARUS 1.1 by Isaacj87

See my post on what that means for Mac users, above.

Short answer is no - that's the same as the top level - parallel to the folders you normally see on you SD card.

regarding the above post for mac users....

this rigamaroll is why i just used my pc. i actually just flashed icarus onto a friends phone at the public library using an 8gb thumb drive to avoid his mac.

There's never a wrong path to root or rom installations so long as the job gets done correctly. ;)

The procedure I described includes creating a save folder and I recommend that all phone actions flow through that, regardless of your preferred OS.

I strongly recommend that for all users, regardless of OS, because if a phone is lost or stolen or dies and you replace it, you can't guarantee that the files that are on servers today will be on servers tomorrow - that is an unfortunate but not uncommon issue I see in many forums.

In my case, under my EVO folder, is a complete history of every app, rom, kernel, nandroid and SD card backup I've ever done - I've even gone so far as to make PDFs of the instructions I've used.

The actual need for that is statistically quite low - but not zero. ;)

When your first root effort takes 78 steps (more for Windows users) like mine did, you learn to wear a belt and suspenders.

Anyway - that's just my opinion, your mileage may vary. :)

Sorry for the couple of easy questions but I just want this to run smoothly.

No such thing as too easy a question when you're new to this and your phone is on the line! ;)

Icarus 1.0 Cricket installed successfully. I thought all of my contacts were stored in my gmail but I can't find them.

I logged into the Market from my PC, how to I install the apps to my phone?

The re-install part has me confused. With my phone connected to my PC, is there a way to send them all at once?

Actually, the apps don't download to your PC - the web app sends a trigger so they go directly to your phone.

Did you make a Titanium Backup of your apps?

PS - So far as I know, you don't want to send all of the apps to your phone at once. You can and will make things on your phone force close if you try to overload it too bad cuing everything for download in a batch. (Voice of experience - whenever I forget that, I end up forcing the poor phone to reboot.) Titanium Backup handles that properly - and I had no issue cuing everything from the web, as a request for each app.

Yes, I had backed everything up with Titanium and also had the purchased the Key (for freezing apps).

Then that backup was on your SD card, then the PC via the SD backup step - now just restore that backup to your SD card, grab Titanium Backup, and go to town.

As I recall, Tokenpoke posted great step-by-step for that earlier - I thought it was in this thread...??

I installed Icarus 1.1 last night! I love it! I have been reading this thread for weeks, and finally decided to do it! This was my big plan for spring break, now I have to find something else to do lol. Thank you to the developers and everyone who posted their experiences doing this. It was easy, just follow the directions.

this is not completely true...

if you have titanium backup (titbu is what i call it here) you can back up all user apps and easily reinstall them after you flash.

open titbu,
center tab,
physical menu key,
batch,
back up all user apps.

save the "titaniumbackup" folder on your sd to your computer.

after flash d/ld titbu (free) and get back to batch menu,
run "restore missing apps with data"

one page ago.

Well - look at the bright side. Now you get to get more familiar with the web Market, and you'll get to re-config things - but maybe you'll enjoy the subtle changes you might make now that you've had more experience.

If nothing else - you'll forget this again on your next rom, and you'll be way ready to help others not go down the same path.

I like to keep a good thought - lemonade can be tasty, if you let it. ;)

Congrats!

Totally digging your avatar!!

The hat... :D :D XD

I have got to get me one of those!

Well I got the market thing straightened out, thanks to Tokenpoke. I was able to reinstall all of my old apps no problem. Now the time is still set 3 hrs forward! I cannot change it (to my knowledge) and its just one of those annoying little things, lol...any advice??

Maybe enable location so it knows where you are? (guess)

Hey thanks for the tip..but I finally got it.

Another guy/gal posted elsewhere (on this forum) that switching to airplane mode fixed one of his network issues (sorry I cant provide credit where its due, Im in a hurry).

Sooo...after 5 battery pulls, one phone call to "Fredrick" at MetroPCS, enabling and disabling location 5x, switching to airplane mode numerous times...I finally switched to Airplane Mode then immediately powered down (normally)..powered back up and it was fixed! Thanks for the tips guys.

P.S. This seems like a great community of very smart people who are willing to help each other. If only there were more people like this in the real world...haha. Take care.

Help! I installed Icarus last night and it was awesome, until I took out my memory card, now I cannot get to the market, and none of my apps work. I put the card back in, still nothing, I restarted. What do I do?

:forehead slap:

You know - from time to time when doing full rom updates, it's not uncommon to loose Market access for a few hours.

This case seems precipitated by the SD card actions - if it happens again, maybe go to applications, and remove Market cache/data, force close, then re-start. That _should_ compel it to get back in line.
