any help?
P.S
You ppl rock....been watching and reading.....icarus 1.1 ROCKS

Assuming you have completed the install of Icarus and are getting the phone set back up...

Are you still connected to your computer? If yes, then Unmount and unplug from the computer. Try your contact recovery now.

If no, then unmount the SD card, take it out, put it back in, and try again.

If that dont work, are you sure you saved a backup to your SD card? If so, did you copy the contents of your SD card to your computer before you installed Icarus? Remember, theres a step in Icarus to format the SD card. If you didnt copy them, then they got wiped out with the format.

Reply back with more info about whats going on, and what you've done so far.

Does the GOOGLE contact back-up function still work when you install a custom ROM such as ICARUS 1.1? Just curious,as I am one of the few here who have yet to install it.

Before I did anything, I just backed my contacts up to the SD card. Then copied that file to my computer. After the install, I copied that file back to my SD and restored from there.

I had added all my contacts as "phone contacts" instead of "gmail contacts"

Then I found out what the difference was and boy did I feel stupid.

I changed everything over to gmail contacts but I couldn't find a way of doing that other than re-entering them and deleting the old "phone" contact.

Once I did that I installed Icarus 1.1 and all my contacts loaded back via my gmail account.

Very kewl :)

I went to my gmail account (using my computer) and I deleted everything that wasn't essential. There was a lot of "junk" in there. People I haven't talked to in a while or only talked to once or twice and don't really know etc.

So I totally deleted a lot of stuff there.

Then I brought up the "phone" contacts on my Ascend and matched them up with my gmail account. The contact list in my gmail was just a name and an e-mail address. Basically I had to enter the phone numbers in and in some instances I changed the names. I just did one at a time. As soon as I copied the phone number into gmail I would delete the contact on the phone.

When I was done I logged in and out of gmail on my computer then turned my phone off then on and everything matched and was in sync.

Please note that you can also make "groups"

I put all my local pizza places and chinese delivery places into a group called "food" (I did this on gmail's website and it carried over to the phone).

Then on the phone I added any contact with a phone number to "Favorites" (well other than my food delivery places)

I don't have all that many contacts though but so far this is working for me.

*** EDIT ***
Just to be clear. When you enter a contact into the phone it gives you an option to make it a "PHONE" contact or a "GMAIL" contact. I had made all mine PHONE contacts. This means it doesn't "mix" with the "GMAIL" contacts.

But when I realized that GMAIL contacts will sync with the phone then I realized that that was what I should have done (all along).

However I can see no way to "convert" a PHONE contact to a GMAIL contact. So I did it manually but in many cases I had e-mails for most of my friends so they were in GMAIL but without phone numbers. So I had to add the phone number to the gmail account then delete the phone contact and now it all syncs and is very nice.

I was a bit old fashioned ... I had everyone's phone number in a text file which I would print out once in a blue moon in case my computer crashed. How lame is that? LOL

I went to my gmail account ..........

Thanks. I need to break them up into groups now. Even by just using Menu > Display Options, it's still a mess.

As for your text file thing, it's not a bad idea. Well, wasn't a bad idea to me last month before I got this phone. My previous phone was not a smart phone, so I kept everything saved in a text file on my external harddrive in the event that my phone was lost, stolen, or broken. That was my backup too.

I had an internal harddrive crash on me. I learned a hard lesson about making backups. I keep everything on an external harddrive now, and I back that harddrive up with another external harddrive. Every year or so, I replace the older of the 2 externals for a new unit and repeat the backup process.

I have know idea what happened........i only have a few contacts and most i could give a SH*T if i have there # any ways........lol
I just need to make new friends anyways..........lmao

i don't want g-mail having all my numbers. it's kinda creepy to me.

i regularly refresh my sd backup to my computer just in case.

LOL

I do kinda know what you mean though ...

Before I got my phone I ended up making a gmail account which became my new "main" e-mail account and now that I got this Android phone and used the same gmail account ... well ... I'm becoming google. Or google is becoming me.

I can feel the Google tendrils seeping through my skull and into my brain

But honestly it makes it easier for me and this isn't 1984 yet (knock on wood)

When I put Icarus 1.1 on my phone, It had all my contacts I'd saved to my Gmail. With full pictures and all notes and information I'd included.

P.S I was born in 1984. LOL
