Looking at the Dinc

Hi I'm contemplating moving my family plan to VZW for unltd data purposes.

I have heard that the Dinc has some issues with service and speeds. We are in South Jersey.

How is the Dinc.? I know a new version is coming out but with my employer discount I can get the Dinc for $110 on a 1 year contract.

Also if I get grandfathered into unltd data does that mean VZW will still continue to offer unltd on my family plan for each device?

wait for new phones. I had the Eris, went to the Inc loved it for a week. it's built outta plastic. it feels and IS cheaply built. the thunderbolt will be out eventually. screw apple. the screen on the TB may be too big.. 4.3' .. the inc is 3.7' and 4' seems to be the biggest id like to go. and the inc S is going to ATT like WTF.. the inc isn't worth it this late in the game imho... but every key turns a differnt door. shit i never thought id see my dad ona smartphone but wants to buy the inc before they take them off the shelves. I think hes crazy but he thinks the TB 4.3' screen will be too large.

Wow, I really have no clue what ACD was trying to say there.

Anyways, as an owner of an Incredible since last June I will say it is a fantastic phone, and is definitely worth owning. As for feeling cheap, I can't say I agree. Sure, it is made out of plastic and the entire back half comes off for battery and SIM access. However, I've dropped mine several times and it is no worse for the year.

As for should you get one now. Well, frankly that's a personal decision only you can make. If it were me, I would wait until the summer. I would have my eyes on the Droid Bionic which looks like its going to be a great phone. If I had to go right now, yes, I would go with the Incredible as it appears we won't be seeing the Thunderbolt until the end of the month.

Hope this helps.

Get in now. Last night I was using my inc to watch people in Japan u-streaming live reports of the earthquake/tsunami. The biggest problem I have had with this phone is I can't put it down. The phone still seems very competitive. I've had mine since launch day and still satisfied completely. Still have not rooted my phone, but just knowing I could is kinda kool too. Good luck no matter which phone you get. Oh yeah, otterbox commuter case is sweet addition to this phone.

DINC is IMO Verizon's best phone available right now. Plus if your not in 4G area getting the Thunderbolt may not be the smartest idea right yet and you could be waiting a long time

I love mine. It is smooth, fast, and well-built. Perfect size if you are a pocketer.

Normally I get bored of things quick but it has been almost year that I have owned the Incredible and I have no urges to get an upgrade.

I just got my used-but-like-new Droid Incredible a few days ago via Craig's List. I'm not eligible for an upgrade till August, but I desperately wanted to get away from my Droid Eris. After selling my Eris, the net cost was less than $100.

I think this is just about the largest screen I would want on a phone because I need it to be pocket-able. And for me, it's not worth it to wait for the 4G/LTE phones because I'd have to wait until August for my upgrade anyway, and they'll be too expensive to buy at full price. So in my case, the Incredible was well worth it, and it seems like it's light years beyond the Eris in terms of speed, features, and even battery life.

If you need a pocket-able phone, you might not be happy with the first wave of 4G/LTE phones. And if you're just getting a 1-year contract anyway, I think you can safely buy the Incredible and be happy with it for 10 months (at which point they'll let you upgrade to something else).

The Inc S is NOT going to ATT. OP, that is the phone that I would hold out for honestly. TB is nice and all, but something about a 4" screen is perfect IMO.

To the original poster, the Incredible is nearly a year old at this point, and Verizon has several newer phones that are superior in most respects, especially in battery life, such as the Droid X. I'm sure that several Android smartphone models have been released on VZW since, most of which I'm sure you'd enjoy more than the aging Incredible. The Droid X isn't much newer than the Incredible, and according to my local Verizon store it's eol date is the same as the Inc.

This comes down to a simple question. Are you willing to pay for the top of the line?

The Incredible is still an excellent device. There is/will be better out there but they will cost more. Personally, I wouldnt trade my Incredible for anything right now. As for the X, that is personal preference but I had a chance to make that switch and didnt. I have a rooted Incredible running a gingerbread ROM and it is excellent.

Read as much as you can but remember that opinions run rampant. Look for details why people like/dislike things and weight the options. If it was me, I'd get an incredible fore a lot less $$ and still enjoy it for 2 years (or so).

As to the comment about the DroidX being superior.

First off the DroidX is like having a small tablet in your pocket. It's just too big for a lot of people.

Some friends of ours, the wife has an Incredible and the husband has an X, and she says that his X will be laggy on certain games and hang up where her Incredible runs them smoothly. And they both play games online together using their respective phones.

The DroidX is not surperior for several reasons.
1. It's not made by HTC.
2. It's too big.
3. It's not as snappy as the Incredible.

That being said if you prefer a really large screen (some do and some don't) and you like Motorola, then the X may be the perfect phone for you. But generally speaking, it's not "superior." At best it's equal.

I have DInc and love it. Use it on PagePlus. Agree with point 2 above (point 1 doesn't matter to me, point 3 - can't comment as only used Droid X for a little bit).

Like everyone said, it's personal preference. I had the opp. to trade in my Eris for $132 credit and I had an upgrade available so I traded in the Eris and upgraded to the Inc. on a one year contract ~129 after rebate - $Free!. Not too bad. I'll be eligible to upgrade again in December and the Thunderbolt will be taking a backseat to whatever is hitting during the holiday season. I rooted the phone the first second I got home and used SetCPU to underclock when the screens off. I also watch my data / wifi usage to save on battery. i.e. at home I turn off 3G and set it to wifi. I'm easily getting 24 hours on a single charge. The battery is no worse than any smartphone or even my iPod touch. If you can get grandfathered in on unlimited 3G, go for it!:)
