Root Question on overclocked ROM

Well I'm using ROM MANAGER on my Droid and I've been wanting my Droid to become fast. I mean really fast. I would like to download the 900MHz Kernel for Any ROM and i was wonduring how safe it is. I've turned on the advanced on ROM MANAGER.

I'm using CM7 Nightly Build 14 overclocked to 800.

I use SGS kernel flasher if I'm just flashing a kernel. People don't say very good things about ROM Manager. Just check what kernels are compatible with your ROM. Flash them with SGS.

I keep seeing that people "hear" bad thing about Rom Manager, but I have yet to really see where rom manager has caused any problems.... maybe I have just been over looking them, but the very few post I have seen with complaints about rom manager have boiled down to user error. I have been using rom manager from day one with my OG Droid for over a year now and have NEVER had a problem with it. On a side note though, I took a look at the SGS page you linked, and right on their page it says its not compatable with CM7 which is what the OP says he is using. Not trying to be critical, just putting my two cents in.

Edit: Just noticed that you have a captivate, which the SGS app is made for, and perhaps in the captivate forums folks have been having problems with rom manager, so if I have offended you I appoligize, just figured that sense this was a Droid forum we had common hardware.

read thru the forums... youll see plenty of prollems. 99 out of 100 times when a person is haveing this or that issue, somewhere in that thread it will also say "and i flashed it with rom manager" sure lots of people use it and dont have issue, but that doesnt change the fact that it can cause alot of prollems.

i have flashed well over 100 roms on my 3 phones and have never had an issue. IMO the safest possible way to flash roms is to download rom to PC,transfer to phone via usb cable, and boot into recovery to backup/wipe/flash.

my 2 cents anyway. i personally avoid rom manager like the plague. if you continue to use rom manager, fine, but you have been warned ;)

on the original post,i use cm7 and the compache kernal along with the milestone overclock app and setcpu to set profiles. i can go as high as 1200,but i keep my droid at 1000hz. its very snappy :)

Hey guys i put the kernel on and it worked great. I flashed a new rom with CM7 #17 and now i can't over clock my droid to 900 anymore. Will i be safe to overclock it to 1,000 on a cm7 #17 nightly build?

Yes, you can over clock CM7 including the nightlies. what you noticed is that every time you flash a rom you will have to reflash your overclock kernal. the Roms include a kernal that over-writes your previous one, even if you don't wipe data and cache.

you will most likely not hurt your droid going up to 1200 mhz, but not all droid can sustain that speed. I had a couple refurbs that just didn't like anything over 1100. try different speeds and voltages and even devolpers till you find one that your phone likes. just keep and eye on your temps. good luck and have fun.
