Help About to return

Do you guys think that Gingerbread will improve battery life? I don't know a lot about Android devices, just what I've learned in the last few weeks from this forum. (which is probably a lot more than the average user)

I'm sure they can incorporate things into gingerbread that addresses some battery issues if I remember correctly they addresses battery issues in froyo maybe? one of the os updates addressed some issues but guess we will have to wait and see

you sure? blah blah blah....

yeah he's sure. me, the OP was upset about the battery and LEARNED after asking ADVICE that you can "bump charge" and it was suggested to use WiFi something i hadn't thought of until UB recommended it. its a forum... you know, discuss, rant, rave..... ROOOOOOOT.

don't ever question a Mod of UB's caliber. he once beat Chuck Norris to an arm wrestling match without even touching him :D

(see UB, michigan people and ohio people CAN get along!)

just stay away from me come football season

you sure? title to op's thread is "About to return". doesn't seem like he's looking for advice. sound like he's made up his mind in less than 1 full day of use or asking for support. what kind of response should he expect? :\

biggest pieces of advice...use wifi when available and reduce sync frequency of any non-essential app. check battery status log for what's eating up battery.

op started the thread in a ready-shoot-aim manner of blaming the phone for bad battery life. i had an og droid and an incredible. in both cases battery life started off so-so and then improved due to learning how to manage app/syncing and also using wifi. getting a slim extended battery for my incredible also got me the last two hours of juice i needed.

Yeah, I'm sure. He is about to return his phone. He then asks for advice in the first post.

I don't think anyone wants to hear one more "HTC should've used a bigger battery for this phone" comment (I know I don't).

People turn this into a debate with flawed arguments on both sides. People that bought the phone are underwhelmed with battery life, people that didn't feel justified for not running out and buying one. And after a day of use...everyone is an expert LOL

At some point each person has to evaluate they buying decision. Everyone should take a chill pill for a few days to gauge their own use before jumping the gun (that's my advice) :) People were asking me yesterday about "how's battery life". Answer: Don't know yet.

Mine has been off the charger since 7:00 this morning. Minimal use today, a fex texts, no calls. The phone has been on 3G all day as I do not get 4G at work. Battery died around 3:00 PM. Again, I barely used the thing today. I have adjusted all of the settings to be battery-friendy. Maybe I got a bad phone, but c'mon.

Where did I put my Eris? ;)

There are a few pictures of the phone w/the extended battery on this website. I've had the 3500 extended battery for my eris for a while, and while it certainly adds heft and thickness, the extra battery life for me is well worth it.

Crap, that's huge! - <before any of you> that's what she said.

I don't think I will be getting the 2750.

The OP is right, the battery is embarrassingly bad. Like HTC should be embarrassed with the battery life on this phone. And dont give me its on 4G so kills the battery. EVO is also on 4G and battery is way better.

I bought 2 TBolts and I'm doing my best right now to convince myself to keep it. Great phone for right now, but in 3 months the shiny new phone feel will be gone and I'm gonna be PO'd when the charge doesnt even last a work day....forget about a full day.

Battery is embarrassing.

Come on people...This isn't a thread to debate whether or not you want the phone, want to return the phone, etc.

OP looking for some advice relative to his less than stellar battery life.

Got Solutions? Got Suggestions? Having the same problems?...great, please comment. But HTC isn't looking at this thread to hire one of you as their next battery engineer...so we can end the "you should've read more", or "you should have expected this from HTC" comments.

K pumpkins? ;)

Can I be a stalk of celery or maybe green onion instead? Please and thanks! ;)

I am currently on 30% after almost 9 hours of use and up time. I understand people do different things with their phones then I do, so I'm not gonna preach. I hope that it evens out for those of you having issues. Question, has any manufacturer ever sent out a battery replacement to consumers? I know some of you will laugh, but I'm just curious.

Anyone who thinks the battery on this phone will be getting better over time are kidding themselves. Sure, it may marginally improve, but at the end of the day it's still going to suck in comparison to other phones.

I have the Incredible which has atrocious battery life and I figured this phone wouldn't be any different. And from what I've read, it isn't. HTC is obviously form over function with their phones which is sad. They expect "power" users (which are in reality normal users nowadays) to just upgrade to a monstrous battery that makes the phone almost unbearable to live with.

I have the extended battery in my Incredible now and the battery life is still terrible.

If you are someone sitting on the fence hoping that the battery life will get better, I would seriously consider your decision before your 14 days are up. Because it may get a little bit better, but plan on charging your phone multiple times per day just to get through a normal day. I charge my Incredible at least once or twice everyday while I'm at work just to barely get through a full day of phone use.

I really hope HTC figures this out in the future, because most consumers aren't going to put up with this for much longer.

in complaining about battery life list what all and how much you use your phone.

I text alot, call a little, internet a little, and angry birds a little, but my incredible still went 2 days without needing a charge

it could get better with future updates so saying that isnt necessarily true you dont know how they will optimize future os's to increase battery life and even ota updates to address battery issues.

You can be whatever you like ;)

As for the battery getting better or not getting better...

Sitting at 72% (on wifi...not 4G) after 10+ hours off the charger. That is much better than the battery life I was seeing yesterday! And 72% is after I just got done with a mini texting marathon helping my sister in law with her Samsung Galaxy S 4G LOL.

Looks as though the launcher is actively conserving memory...when I turn the phone on some of the widgets like the HTC News widget is completely blank while I scroll to the page it is on and then bam, it populates. I don't recall ever seeing this on another device. Usually those widgets will just have "old" data shown and then refresh after a bit of time. I'm not sure if this is the new sense, or if this has been around for awhile.

So if the phone is capable of decent battery life over wifi, I feel more confident that excess 4G related battery drainage could be addressed with software updates (if it even exists). But that's after 1.5 days...not enough time for me to have really put this thing through its paces.

Instead you should ask me what I don't do. Because I have to not do things that I want to just so I can survive the day and evening. For example, I rarely ever use Pandora even though I want to at times.

But to answer your question, I do nothing more than the average user. I don't even consider myself a power user. Here is my typical day: text a good amount, check the market for updates or new apps once or twice per day, maybe a phone call or two if any, play around in some apps here and there, surf the internet very minimally if at all, check new emails a few timers per day and that's about it.

Like I said, I don't even use Pandora or anything like that and I also don't compose any emails really.

I just feel that I want to do more but I really can't. Unless I want to be charging it throughout the day which isn't possible sometimes.

Look, I'm not hating here. I absolutely LOVE the phone itself. I just hate the battery life.

do you turn on off gps, data, wifi when not using? what about screen brightness?(I use 30 percent)

we both seem to use about the same, but somehow I get significantly more life(with the incredible, the tb is still in testing)

To be honest, the brightness of my screen might be a major culprit. I usually max it out because I love how it looks, lol.

As for the other things, I do turn wifi off when not using. Sometimes gps too, but I will make sure to do that more often. As far as data, are you referring to background data?

False. There's a thing called money-management in case you haven't heard. You either have more money or less sense (probably the latter) than I do, obviously.

I'm sorry about the negativity, just thought I'd share my thoughts of jumping the gun and buying on the first day. (End rant)

Im like you, id rather wait a few days or weeks to see how the device shakes out. I use my phone way too much to jump the gun an make a mistake on a high dollar item like a smart phone.

I use my phone for about 70% talking, and i need atleast 6+hrs of talk time per day. Right now i use the D1 and it has been a great phone an joy to play with. It does everything i need, but sometimes you just want something new an different.

Main reason im looking to upgrade is, i don't want to get caught without a 4g device when tiered data hits. They may not grandfather anyway, but i still want to be set incase they do.

So bramsy did you decide to take it back or not? I didnt see an actual answer on that anywhere. I took my evo back 2 days after i bought it, and just kept my upgrade for later. And then, even though i felt stupid as hell doing it, i went and bought it again...After reading how it got better after a week i thought id give it a chance. And im glad i did, it was fantastic after it "broke in".

I assume many people will do the same thing for the Thunderbolt

Some people want to dance with the devil but don't want to pay the band...this is a BEAST of a Phone..4.3" wicked fast Data speeds...what were they expecting? Its the nature of the beast. There are alternatives. This awesome phone is NOT for everyone. I am very happy with it. Coming from an X i knew what I was getting into in regards to battery life...It is what it is.

What do you like about this phone over the X? Other than the obvious 4g part of the equation.
